This sand is a hit for chinchillas and hedgehogs, offering great value and no greasy fur. However, its fine grain makes it unsuitable for hamsters and gerbils, leading to respiratory issues and unpleasant odors. Some users noted variability in quality, with some bags being dust-free and others causing sneezing. Despite this, many found the sand to be affordable and effective for their pets, making it a popular choice for those with chinchillas.
Affordable and effective for chinchillas.
Does not cause greasy fur in chinchillas.
Unsuitable for hamsters and gerbils due to fine grain causing respiratory issues.

Bathing sand for my three little mice
The sand is really good for my three little mice. Unfortunately, during shipping, two bags were damaged, and I had to transfer them. I would recommend zooplus to use sturdier cardboard boxes for such deliveries. The box looked as if it had been run over by a lorry. The courier who delivered the package left a trail of sand in the stairwell. But the sand itself is liked by my little mice because they enjoy bathing in it.

Perfect for Roborovski dwarf hamsters!
I ordered this sand for my new addition, a Roborovski dwarf hamster.
Unfortunately, two of the three bags arrived damaged, but the sand could be collected, so basically nothing was lost.
The sand itself doesn’t produce any dust at all and is wonderfully soft. My Robo loves scurrying around in it.
Top-notch.

Review of the sand
I think the sand is absolutely brilliant, and it’s really easy to remove again.
My animals feel very comfortable with the sand, and I find that really important.
I’m also very happy to recommend the sand to my friends, as it’s the best you can buy.
Best regards, Sabrina Kuschel from Meckelfeld

Very good for my racing lads!
Since my little runners only play and bathe in the sand, it's perfect for them. It's super soft, and they have lovely fur. For small animals that pee in the sand, it's unsuitable as it doesn't absorb liquids, which is why I no longer use it for my foster hamster.

Absolutely UNSUITABLE for chinchillas
From this sand (bought at a pet shop, not from Zooplus!), my two chinchillas ended up with completely matted, greasy fur and abscesses! Unfortunately, the packaging didn’t state that it was quartz sand, which is unsuitable for chinchillas! I’ve now bought the special sand from JR Farm at Zooplus, and it’s absolutely brilliant. My chinchillas look fluffy again and are healthy!

Not good sand
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this sand. I bought it for my hamsters, and since they mostly pee in the sand, it became unusable in no time as it was completely soaked. So, for pets that use the sand as a toilet, it’s not suitable!

Super sand for racers
Hello, after changing it every day, the sand is great, fine, and doesn’t smell. The price is good too.

Good quality at a reasonable price
I use the chinchilla sand for my hamsters, and they absolutely love it. It's not only silky smooth but also dust-free and perfect for grooming their fur. Great value for money!

Well-suited for rats
I've been ordering this sand repeatedly for some time now, and I have to say it's well-suited for my rats. I use it for the rat toilet, and they like going in there.
The only downside is that the bags get damaged during transport every time, and I have to clean the rest of my order from the sand first.

Good
I am very satisfied with the sand, as are my three degu ladies. Unfortunately, the packaging of the sand is not good; almost every order arrives with a damaged package and the sand spilled inside the parcel.

Smells bad very quickly
I ordered this sand for my gerbils because a) it's affordable and b) it's quartz sand. I specifically wanted quartz sand since the dust from this type of sand, unlike attapulgite and sepiolite, is not carcinogenic.
However, the sand starts to smell so bad after about 12 hours that I have to change it twice a day.
It's worth mentioning that my group consists of 5 animals.

My degus are happy.
We have been very satisfied with it for years. The price here is also much cheaper than in retail stores. It's a shame, though, that it’s not really well packaged, and with every order, at least one pack is damaged, leaving a trail of sand behind.

Not suitable for chinchillas!
For gerbils and the like, the quartz sand might be great, but unfortunately, it’s not suitable for chinchillas.
The fine hairs split, and after a relatively short time, the animals look like they’ve been moth-eaten.
The manufacturer should replace the "Chin" on the label with "gerbil" or "degu," then it would be fine. As it stands, it gives the impression that the product is specifically made for chinchillas, which is misleading.

Not good
I don’t think this bathing sand is good; both of my chinchillas end up with greasy fur afterwards, and it’s only usable for one day.
I won’t be ordering it again.

Hamsters & mice think it's brilliant
I’ve been looking for an affordable sand without carcinogenic additives for quite a while. I bought the first pack at Fressnapf, although it’s a bit more expensive there than here. Well, we’re really impressed with the sand. I’ve been using it since May 2007 and honestly have no complaints. The hamster uses it as a bath and toilet, while the mice mostly just use it as a toilet.
I also don’t think the smell is due to the sand, as often described here. It’s simply the strong odour of mouse urine. With the mice, it really does stink, but with the hamster, who also pees in it, it doesn’t. And it’s the same sand!
One thing I do have to mention, though, is that there’s always at least one damaged package. Some sand is always lost during transport.
I’ve already contacted zooplus about this but haven’t received a response.
All in all, I can definitely recommend the sand itself!
