Scruffy, patchy fur
One of our two chinchillas didn’t have super smooth fur from the start, unlike the other one, but after frequent bathing in this sand, it got worse and worse. Neither of them went into it with the same enthusiasm as they did with another type of sand. Anyway, after we switched back to a different sand, their fur improved significantly, and both of them are now bathing again with the playful excitement they used to have. The only positive thing we can say about this sand in our case is the affordable price.

Not bad
My two chinchillas love the sand and enjoy bathing in it, so I really can't complain. Plus, since I bought three packs at once, I've stocked up for a while—and all at a great price!

Super
Super, I immediately bought a pack of three!
It hardly creates any dust (almost none at all) and is super soft and fine!
My runners can’t get enough of it!

This is quartz sand.
This is quartz sand and therefore not suitable for chinchillas!
You can easily test this yourself by wetting the sand. If you can form a solid ball that doesn’t crumble, then the sand is suitable for chinchillas. That’s not the case with this sand. It’s at best only usable as bird sand.

Well...it stinks!!!
Even though my little runners enthusiastically bathe in the sand every day and then use it as a toilet, I must unfortunately point out that this sand, compared to sand from other suppliers, develops a terrible smell... Gerbils are known for not *stinking*, but ever since I started using this sand, you can smell the little ones from five miles away...
Highly unsatisfactory...

Very good
The chinchilla sand serves its purpose really well. The two animals love bathing in it, and they've developed truly beautiful fur!!! Even better than when they were with their previous owners! I'm very satisfied... especially with the price!

Clumps too much
Well, I don't think this sand is very good for my gerbils.
They also pee in it, and it clumps a lot, so it doesn't stay loose and spreadable.

Super Sand
This sand is absolutely brilliant – my hamster and guinea pig love it and feel completely at home in it!

My chinchillas tolerate it well.
Well, I use this sand because my breeder also used it. I can't say anything negative about it either. The fur of my two chinchillas is healthy and looks fantastic!! I'm sticking with this sand!

Satisfied!
Well, my little runners seem to like it; they bathe and scurry around in it a lot. Afterwards, they use it as a toilet, so you have to replace it every day. The price is absolutely fine! I'm satisfied, anyway!

Great sand for gerbils
I often buy this sand for my gerbils and jerboas. It's fine for their fur, but I think it's unsuitable for chinchillas. Otherwise, great value for money!

My two degu girls spend the whole day bathing, and it's also great for digging. Every now and then, they even take a little nap in the sand bath.

My Chini had some of it ....
Got an inflammation in my right eye. I'm very dissatisfied with it!!! Nothing beats the Blue Cloud.

My cousin bought the sand for her hamster, and he loves it! For fun, she gave me a bit for my guinea pigs, and THEY BATHE IN IT!!
Not very often, but when I took the sand away, they started squeaking angrily!
So, I ended up buying the sand myself, and now every Sunday I put a bowl of sand in for them.

For chins, the wrong sand
The sand is flawless and impeccable – but unfortunately, it’s completely unsuitable for caring for the delicate fur of chinchillas. I wonder what the manufacturer was thinking when they labelled this quartz sand as special chinchilla sand. Why isn’t the sand marketed as bathing sand for degus and gerbils, where it wouldn’t harm their fur structure and would likely have a beneficial effect on these animals? This really affordable product is also excellent as bird sand!

Suuuper silky gerbil fur!!
So, I finally got myself two gerbils last week and ordered the 5-kilo bag here from zooplus because it’s cheaper than at the pet shop. My little ones absolutely love rolling around in it and have already developed super smooth, silky fur after just one week! I don’t have a quality comparison with other bathing sands, but it can hardly get any better than this! Contrary to some other comments here, I’ve noticed that my sweeties don’t use their sand dish as a toilet; at least they seem to do their business there less often than elsewhere in the cage. So, I can wholeheartedly recommend it!

BAD
I was really pleased to find such affordable sand for my group of gerbils – super fine-grained – I thought it would be even better. But since the gerbils also use the sand bath as a toilet, I quickly realised that it started to smell really awful on the very same day – which was absolutely disgusting...
I ended up throwing away half the pack because it wasn’t possible to change it that often – I was really disappointed.

Comparison: JRSand vs Chinsand
Zooplus recently still had the sand from JR Farm in their range, but when I wanted to reorder it, I had to realise that Zooplus had switched to this chinchilla sand. Since I couldn’t get the 25 kg sand from JR Farm, I decided to order this one. Unfortunately, I had to find out that this sand is significantly coarser, and the colour has also changed. Unfortunately, my chinchilla only likes this sand to a very limited extent. I hope Zooplus quickly brings the JR Farm sand back into their range so that my chins can enjoy their baths again.
