This sand is a hit for chinchillas and hedgehogs, offering great value and no greasy fur. However, its fine grain makes it unsuitable for hamsters and gerbils, leading to respiratory issues and unpleasant odors. Some users noted variability in quality, with some bags being dust-free and others causing sneezing. Despite this, many found the sand to be affordable and effective for their pets, making it a popular choice for those with chinchillas.
Affordable and effective for chinchillas.
Does not cause greasy fur in chinchillas.
Unsuitable for hamsters and gerbils due to fine grain causing respiratory issues.

not impressed
I have a chinnie rescue and thought this looked a good price and would try. Its really fine, almost just dust, I give my chinnies a bath every day, I don't think this gets the grease out of their coats as well as others and notice they don't look as well groomed.

Good quality, but not for gerbils
The quality, quantity and value are good, but as it's so fine it gets everywhere. Also it's not great for gerbils, because they pee in it and as it doesn't clump as well, you end up throwing away much more than courser sand.

Price is great, but unfortunately the quality isn't.
For the price, this product is really great. Unfortunately, it starts to smell quite quickly, even with seven.
I have to completely change it after two days with my little ones. I have to use less of it, otherwise, it would get really expensive.
Won’t be ordering it again, unfortunately...

Price unbeatable, but otherwise meh
The price of this sand is simply unbeatable, and it’s really helpful for many rodents. However, it didn’t quite manage to convince me completely. Like all quartz sands, it doesn’t give the fur a nice finish, but I was already aware of that beforehand. Unfortunately, I noticed that some of our rodents reacted to it with skin redness and inflamed eyes. I’ve now mixed it with sepiolite sand and only give it to the less sensitive animals.
I probably won’t be buying it again.

Sand is great. Delivery was terrible!
The sand is wonderful, no other will ever go into the terrarium again. HOWEVER, every time I have to sweep the sand out of the shipping box because the bags always end up broken. It's very annoying, especially when only half of the ordered product arrives at home!

Sand is great, but the packaging and shipping are terrible.
The sand fully serves its purpose, my WB hedgehog bathes in it, urine clumps together, and the big mess is easy to remove as well. BUT Zooplus just can't manage to ship the sand in a way that the bags hold up. Twice now, I've had sand scattered all over the hallway/post office, which is, of course, delightful...

Quite good
I think this sand is great, and my hamsters like it too. However, I find the new price a bit too high. I’ll probably have to think twice about whether I’ll order the sand again. ;)

Quality of the sand is good, but...
The packaging is terrible!
I received a completely torn box, with sand already spilling out from the bottom.
The "sand bags" all had small holes, which you don't notice at first, but as soon as you carry the bag somewhere, you end up with sand all over your home!
All of this could be "avoided" if the sand were simply delivered in small buckets...
I don't think this sand is suitable for chinchillas. For gerbils, it can be used.
That's my opinion, and that's why I'm only giving 3 stars.

As a flooring material, it's OK.
Quartz sand is not well-suited for a sand bath because it doesn't absorb enough.
However, as a flooring material, this sand is good and affordable. So far, I haven't noticed any injuries, presumably because the sand—like bath sand should be—is rounded.
At the moment, I'm mixing it with JR sand for better cleaning effectiveness. This way, I have an affordable substrate (filling a terrarium with attapulgite would be quite expensive) where my gerbils can dig well and keep their fur grease-free. (And the smell of the JR sand isn't as bothersome anymore...)

The hamster doesn't like the sand.
I wanted to use the sand for my hamster Janosch to bathe in, but he absolutely doesn’t like it. No matter what I do, as soon as I put him in, he darts straight back out. Every now and then he pees in it, but other than that, the purchase was a waste...

Bags are always full of holes.
The sand is flawless in terms of quality; the only issue is that the bags are always punctured.
As a result, the sand spreads throughout the entire box, meaning there’s naturally less content left in the bag...

Smells very quickly
I got the sand for my gerbils; it's nice and soft and great for their fur, but unfortunately, it starts to smell awful after just 2-3 days. Such a shame.

Good product
Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive completely intact. The delivery box was all dented, and the sand was spilling out. About a third was already missing. That shouldn’t happen!

Clumps too much
Well, I don't think this sand is very good for my gerbils.
They also pee in it, and it clumps a lot, so it doesn't stay loose and spreadable.

Comparison: JRSand vs Chinsand
Zooplus recently still had the sand from JR Farm in their range, but when I wanted to reorder it, I had to realise that Zooplus had switched to this chinchilla sand. Since I couldn’t get the 25 kg sand from JR Farm, I decided to order this one. Unfortunately, I had to find out that this sand is significantly coarser, and the colour has also changed. Unfortunately, my chinchilla only likes this sand to a very limited extent. I hope Zooplus quickly brings the JR Farm sand back into their range so that my chins can enjoy their baths again.
