This sand is a hit for chinchillas and hedgehogs, offering great value and no greasy fur. However, its fine grain makes it unsuitable for hamsters and gerbils, leading to respiratory issues and unpleasant odors. Some users noted variability in quality, with some bags being dust-free and others causing sneezing. Despite this, many found the sand to be affordable and effective for their pets, making it a popular choice for those with chinchillas.
Affordable and effective for chinchillas.
Does not cause greasy fur in chinchillas.
Unsuitable for hamsters and gerbils due to fine grain causing respiratory issues.

My chinchillas love the sand...
...they love bathing and digging in it.
I think the price is great, but I do have to criticise the packaging. With the last delivery, one bag had almost half spilled out, and the other two were also open.
It would be fantastic if this issue could be resolved.
Otherwise, the delivery was, as always, excellent and lightning-fast.

Constantly smelly and clumpy...
This sand is just cheap, nothing more. Our gerbils do bathe in it, but they also use the bath as a toilet, and the sand is completely ruined after just one day (with only two tiny little gerbils). It becomes brittle, can’t be sifted anymore, and starts to smell really quickly. With more expensive sand, it lasts longer and the gerbils have more fun, so: stay away from this sand!

Top-notch class, shipping -*
The sand is great, but unfortunately, two out of three packets were damaged. So the sand ended up more in the box and around the flat.

Good product, good, poor shipping
My dwarf hamster lady thinks the sand is great, and I think the price is fantastic, but Zooplus really needs to work on their shipping. Unfortunately, the sand was already leaking out of the box before I even opened the package.

First meh... then wow!
At first, I was really impressed with the sand. It didn’t create as much dust as I was used to with other brands. However, because it’s so incredibly fine, it settles everywhere. My degus love bathing, almost no matter what. But now I’ve noticed that they can’t get the sand out of their fur as easily anymore, they carry it everywhere, and they scratch themselves more often after bathing because they can’t get rid of it. Their fur doesn’t shine like it used to; it looks dull and matte. And this fine sand is everywhere in the cage. On top of that, it absorbs the smell of degu urine extremely quickly and clumps in a very odd way. My little one, who’s currently being kept alone, has a different sand, and I don’t have any issues with that. Now I’ve got loads of this sand, but I definitely won’t be using it. What a pain!

Quality and price are spot on!
Switched from a more expensive sand to this one and absolutely satisfied... the animals love it too and really enjoy bathing in it. Great quality at a fair price!

Super Bathing Sand
My two chinchillas have got incredibly soft fur, and the price is absolutely brilliant!

NOT for chinchillas
Quartz sand is too sharp-edged and splits the hair; the animals basically end up with split ends because of it.

Sand is great. Delivery was terrible!
The sand is wonderful, no other will ever go into the terrarium again. HOWEVER, every time I have to sweep the sand out of the shipping box because the bags always end up broken. It's very annoying, especially when only half of the ordered product arrives at home!

Pleasantly surprised
I got a hamster yesterday.
Of course, everything is fine and lovely, but the little one isn’t using his corner toilet; instead, he’s using his sand bath bowl as a loo.
At first, I thought: Oh great, now I’ll have to change the sand every day because he’s peeing all over it *grml* (and in my pet shop, it’s relatively expensive – a bag costs €6, so I’ll probably start ordering it online in the future ;)).
But then I tried using a mini-sized cat litter scoop to get the worst bits out. And lo and behold: the sand clumped together so nicely that I could just sift it out. I’d still prefer it if my little rascal used his corner toilet, but since the sand clumps, it’s not a big deal. It’ll just end up being more expensive in the long run compared to if he used the bedding :-D

Sand is great, but the packaging and shipping are terrible.
The sand fully serves its purpose, my WB hedgehog bathes in it, urine clumps together, and the big mess is easy to remove as well. BUT Zooplus just can't manage to ship the sand in a way that the bags hold up. Twice now, I've had sand scattered all over the hallway/post office, which is, of course, delightful...

Top-notch
The sand is absolutely brilliant and really affordable!! I've been using it for years, and my chinchillas love bathing in it, which has given them wonderfully shiny fur.

Not suitable for chinchillas
My chinchillas ended up with really scruffy fur from the sand, not suitable as bathing sand.

Does not meet our expectations
We used to always go for the WitteMolen® Bathing Sand or JR Farm Chinchilla Sand Special. Due to the price and the good reviews, I decided to give this one a try. The sand looks nice (like a white sandy beach), is soft, and very fine. However, my gerbils prefer bathing in the other mentioned types; this sand doesn’t glide off their fur as well, and their coat doesn’t have the same shine. What I find better about the other types compared to this one is that they bind the urine. Small clumps form, almost like cat litter, but with this sand, it sticks to the "toilet floor." While it does dry relatively quickly due to its fine texture, it feels very unhygienic, gives me an unpleasant sense of cleanliness, and ultimately isn’t cheaper than the other "good" types because the consumption is higher.
My opinion...

Very dusty!
The last two years, I (and my gerbils too) have been totally happy with the sand. Unfortunately, the manufacturer seems to have changed something, as the sand from the last delivery is extremely dusty, so every time I fill the sand baths, I end up standing in a cloud of dust. And my gerbils don’t seem to enjoy bathing in it as much anymore.
I’ll give the sand another try (maybe it was just this one batch), but if it doesn’t improve, I’ll have to look for another supplier.

Rabbits absolutely love it...
My rabbits absolutely love this super soft sand!!!
Not only do they dig in the sandbox, but they also sleep in it – it’s such a joy to watch.
I can only recommend it.

Quartz sand.
The hamster likes the sand for bathing.
Unfortunately, the sand doesn’t absorb anything.
My hamster also uses the sand bath as a toilet.
Since no clumps form, the urine seeps to the bottom, and the entire sand has to be replaced daily.
It’s cheaper than other sand, but also completely inefficient.
After the hamster has done its business in there, it won’t go back in, so sometimes I have to replace it entirely several times a day.
This stuff is really useless.

Very good sand, but unfortunately also very expensive. Such a shame, so only 4 stars...

For rabbits, the greatest pleasure :-)
I bought the sand for my five rabbits. When I placed the tub with the sand in the cage, my bunnies didn’t want to come out anymore... they dug, rolled around, and even did little somersaults in it. It’s such a joy to watch them. At night, they all sleep together in the sand because it gets nice and warm from their body heat. They also smell much better since then. Although they do their business in it now and then, the sand is easy to sift out. I can only recommend it to everyone to bring some joy to their pet with this.

Good sand
This is very good sand. I initially thought differently because I had a different one before, but my four dwarf hamsters love it, and with 3 lots of 5 kilos, it lasts a long time.
Sure, one bag was slightly damaged in the box, but otherwise, it's fine. If the packaging improves a bit, it would be perfect.
And Zooplus is reliable too. Thank you!
