Cat's Best Universal

Having used the Cat's Best Smart Pellets for a while, I thought I'd give this one a go instead (since it's half the price). Have to say, despite the larger sized pellets (which are great for stopping tracking with our long-haired cat), it's impossible to see where the cat has used the litter. It doesn't really clump at all, and the colour/texture is very similar when it has been used, so you end up having to empty half the litter tray whenever your cat does a pee. Shame!

The litter itself of a good quality, but too chunky for cats. The spoiled litter breaks up in powder, and it is difficult to clean up.

Having read that our usual cat litter (Cat's Best Nature Gold / Smart Pellets) have been changed for the worse, I thought I'd try this litter instead as it was half the price and advertised for cats as well. It's definitely NOT made for cats. The pellets just seem to disintegrate into dust after our cats did their small business, hence leaving ugly tracking all over the house. I will go back our usual litter even though it's twice the price. Hopefully it's not as bad as people say it's become.

I am so impressed with this & it is so versatile! I use it in my guinea pigs toilet trays where it absorbs any wetness & stops any smell. It has the added advantage of being quite heavy so it stops them knocking the trays over when they have a mad session of chasing around. I also use it in my chicken & duck runs placed under their water bowls to soak up the spills - thus keeping the cages dry. As if that wasn't enough it's also great for cats litter trays.

I bought this for my 2 cats as my usual Cats Best Gold is proving expensive and does leave some tracking: after reading the mixed reviews of the Universal litter i thought i,d give it a go but wish i hadn,t wasted the money buying 2 x 10 l bags as it isn,t really for cats; it is difficult to tell which pellets have actually been used and there is vast amounts of powder left at the bottom of the litter tray when my cats have used it and i end up scooping out pellets which do not appear to have been used which are mixed in with the powder. I have 2 trays and only used one of the trays to try this product. My boys don,t seem to like it either and much prefer the usual Gold litter so i,ve now had to go back to that.The only "plus" i can give the Universal is that it doesn,t track but my 2 boys and I are very disappointed with this product.

Just tried this for the first time after being a huge fan of silica cat litter.... this is so far, sooooooooo much better!!!! I breed cats and have a lot of waste litter normally, with this - none. Waste gets flushed and is biodegradable! it covers odours well and I think I've just been converted.... thank you!!!!

I got 3 longhair cat at home and the litter tracking has always been a huge problem. I used cat's best long-hair for a while but it's really expensive. This is great, no litter track， great odor control and very economical.

Ordered this for my Ringneck Parakeets cage and its the best ive tried. Does its job and absorbs everything thats thrown at it & as its a completely natural product there are no health issues either. I would definitely recommend this product

We use this for our ferrets as its perfect for them. Little dust (other than at the bottom of the bag) and easy to scoop.

This litter is useless for cats. It does not clump at all is dark in colour so very hard to see what kittens have done and as we all know kittens don't always cover what they do so it gets trodden on and walked everywhere. When it gets wet it turn to dust and the smell is unreal. Is one of the worst litters I have ever bought and was a complete waste of money, YN is better and that is saying a lot.

This should be listed under small pets for rabbit litter as well as it can be and is veery suitable as small pet litter because it doens't clump and is biodegrable. It isn't as abosrbant as other brands of the same type, it seemed as if only the outside absorbed it never reached the inner parts. I got it delivered to Ireland so albeit was a longer journey but when it arrived it had spilt and some of it had spilt...........needs to be packaged better.

I really like using it for both animals (cat and dwarf rabbit) and I'm satisfied!

The last few orders have been a complete disaster... The manufacturer should refund the money for such rubbish! Right from the start, the bag is just full of dust, the product looks like leftovers from the production line, not the final product. I’ll never order this dust again, because that’s not what I’m paying for.

Great for rabbit litter, it absorbs odours really well and doesn’t cause any discomfort after getting wet. Plus, it’s very easy to change.

We tried out this product for a change. The litter smells pleasantly of wood, but it's actually not suitable for the cat litter box. The litter doesn't feel nice under the paws, it doesn't clump, and is therefore difficult to remove from the box.

Up until now, after coming into contact with urine or other liquids, the litter would break down into sawdust, and cleaning the tray was easy because I could just sift it. The last batch – a disaster. About a third of the litter breaks down, but the rest dissolves and turns into a sticky mush that’s impossible to sift. I’ll order one last time; if I just got a bad batch before, fine, but if I get litter with this changed formula again, I’ll never order it again.

The quality is clearly worse than before. The litter box is cleaned twice a day. With the same amount of pellets, it now lasts a maximum of 4 days (!) instead of the previous 6 days. It also sticks to the cat's paws.

Cat’s Best was recommended by my dwarf rabbits’ vet and turned out to be an excellent choice. It’s made from 100% natural wood fibres, biodegradable and virtually dust-free, which makes it a safe option for rabbits’ sensitive respiratory systems. On top of that, it’s a very absorbent material and does a great job at neutralising odours. Thanks to its absorbency, you can slightly adjust your cleaning routine and make the product last longer without compromising hygiene.

After just 2 days, there were strong smells even though I cleaned it every day, and cleaning isn’t made any easier by the fact that the litter breaks down into sawdust.

It really doesn’t clump, but it’s excellent value for money. My cat loves it, though you have to change it more often than the clumping types. But that’s not a downside, because the area stays much cleaner. In return, you don’t have to vacuum the house every day wherever the cat goes. She doesn’t track anything out of the litter box at all. I recommend it.

Non-clumping litter is a complete mistake. You can't clean the litter box with a scoop, you basically have to throw all of it away. Plus, it doesn't absorb odours. I'm going back to the litter with the purple label.

Non-clumping cat litter pellets. This product doesn't absorb any odours at all. The smell of urine is disgusting even after a small wee! Why aren't the PeeWee wood pellets available anymore?! They were a thousand times better.

I've been using this litter for my cats for years and I'm satisfied with it. Unfortunately, the quality of the pellets varies from time to time—the last batch was smaller and crumbled too quickly, so I went through it faster than usual. Important to mention: this litter is meant for sieve toilets! It turns to dust when it gets wet and falls through the sieve. It does this job well, smells like wood, is more environmentally friendly, and (for me) less work than clumping litter.

A litter tray with pellets needs a suitable tray! With a double tray, the top one is where you remove the poo, and it has holes big enough for the soiled sawdust to fall into the tray underneath, which is what you empty every 3 or 4 days. I've had a PeeWee tray for over 6 years, it's the best. Pellets really prevent smells and there's nothing more economical once you know how to use them. Negative reviews are left by people who don't know how to use the product properly.

I never write reviews but I feel like I have to defend this product. I've been using it since my Maine Coon kittens, now quite big, arrived at home and I wouldn't do without it, nor would they. It's true that, since it's quite coarse, at first it doesn't cover the poo very well, but they cover it by digging more vigorously. At first they were a bit puzzled and took a few pieces to play with, but after 3 days they were totally fine with it—it became their litter and has been for a year now. I chose it because it's natural and doesn't harm them.

Indeed, it gets dusty with urine, not very practical. But it does the job and it doesn't bother my cat at all.

In our opinion, Cat's Best Universal litter isn't good for cats. (We've had really great experiences with the "Original" version!) Our cats just didn't get what this big, stiff, chunky material was supposed to be for. Unfortunately, we bought two 20-litre bags of it, and we'd be happy to send back the unopened one, even for free, if you can make use of it...

It doesn't clump at all, you can't scoop out the pee-soaked litter because it just falls apart. It doesn't trap odours either. I tried the purple-pack version from this brand and that one is much better compared to this.

Years ago it was perfect, but lately it smells awful and doesn't absorb the smell of urine.

I’ll try other non-clumping brands, because lately this one smells really bad.
