Needs replacing frequently
Don't get me wrong, these things function correctly for a while, but I'm now on my 4th in 10 years so there seems to be some kind of inherent fault, they generally fail just outside the warranty period. Gonna try another make this time.

Design fault with batteries
We have had several of these cat flaps over the years and after a couple of years they all develop the same fault, where the batteries last only a few days or less. It’s an obvious design fault, sureflap have replaced under the warranty in the past and we currently have an open warranty claim with them again.

Dangerous - do not buy
Bought 9 months ago. Worked OK until ... first sign - batteries kept running down v quickly, then constant clicking. Now batteries, dont even last through the night. When flat, the cat flap locks the cats inside - so had toilet accidents. More concerning -despite assurances, it also locks the cats out, randomly. Customer services were completely useless. DO NOT BUY - it does not work as a cat flap

Too many faults
TheApp is glitchy. Tech support have offered advice, but none of it has worked. Currently now stuck on the initial screen, so can’t even log in. The usual restart the phone or uninstall nolonger works.
The system when it shows it’s all connected, actually isn’t, so you can’t make changes on the app. Left to now manually operating the cat flap which defeats the object of having it. Reliability to work properly is issue.
As others have said it eats batteries.
Great idea, just not there yet.

It reverted to open when locked
My year old cat has gone out in the night when flap should have been locked..Got up in the morning to find it had reset to opening for exit. I haven't seen him since and I am heartbroken.

Is it really worth having ?
After 3 years parts failing and they expect you to change them and will not replace unit regardless of the times it breaks, after their warranty which is only 3 years, that does not warrant a reasonable time, as trading standards states, so an expensive item to only last 3 years max.

Cat hates it
Makes a loud noise whenever the lock opens scaring my cat. He wont use it. Poor.

Worse than nothing - DO NOT BUY!!!
If you have female, unneutered cats, DO NOT BUY this product!
It is staggeringly badly designed, in so far as it is impossible to set it to "entry only". If ALL your cats are not microchipped, they will be trapped outside, and subsequently impreganted by feral toms.
In addition, its lock mode is easy for the cats to bypass - my cats figure out how to get round it within a few weeks. Also, no low battery alert to tell you the batteries are running low.
I wish I had never touched it-Disgusted

Design to torture cats.
Had this now for 3 weeks and i am trying all sorts to make 2 cats and kittens used to it... 1st wrong thing is that you cannot "downgrade it" and use it as a plain flap (they use a litter box so it would be an easier mechanism for them). I tried with tape and removing batteries but there is always a magnetic mechanism that keeps it firm. 2) Every time that my cat approaches it, there is this massive clank that obviously scare them off and they run away.
For them it's scary, torture, we hate it!

Expensive waste of money, EXIT ONLY!
I purchased and installed this product at great personal expense, expecting that it would be able to control exit and entry to my house for my cats, some of whom have different medical needs. I expected to be able to determne which cats are allowed to exit or enter the house. However, this product only allows EXIT ONLY mode - which means that a female cat in heat, for example, is free to come and go as she pleases.
There is a manual mode, but it rather defeats the purpose. Do not reccommend.

A little disappointed
I bought the sureflap for my cars as we were having issues with a neighbours cat coming in the house, only problem now is my cats won't come in the house! All three of them are terrified of the loud nose the cat flap makes when it reads the microchip and unlocks. I'm now having to open the front door to let them in as the won't even go near it. We tried slowly getting the used to the noise by keeping the flap open with the lock on so they could just run through but no luck! So I guess it does work, keeps all cats out. Considering the cost feel I've wasted my money.

works in my hand, but not when its installed in the door.
The sureflap works great near the door, but not att all when its installed in the door. And i have a wooden door with no metal nearby. The only thing i can think of is the metal in the concrete under my wooden floor..
isn't it strange that it's so sensitive? ?
i bought it 2 days ago. :(

stray cat can open from the outside by hooking his claw under it
I have tried and triedd to keep a stray cat out and couldn't work out how he was getting in then my wife finally caught him hooking his claw under the flap and pulling it open

Disappointing.
I was disappointed in this cat flap almost from the start.
The closing mechanism slides sideways and can be knocked by a determined paw. I set on "in only" and my cat managed to change it to "out only" and lock herself out.
After just over a year, the microchip locking mechanism failed and my cats couldn't get into the house. I tried first replacing and then removing the batteries but that didn't help. I've had to tape the catch open with duct tape, thus losing the advantage of a microchip flap!
It's not a cheap item (although I think it's cheaper at zooplus than elsewhere). I'm looking to see if there is an alternative microchip cat flap to replace this one.
