Do you have a balcony, terrace or even a garden? Then Karlie has something very special for you and your velvet paw: the Karlie Outdoor III scratching post! This great outdoor scratching post is perfect for outdoor use. It is made of weatherproof HDPE plastic poles that are wrapped in plastic sisal. This literally invites your cat to groom its claws and really let off steam. The comfortable lounger variants are woven from hard-wearing plastic rattan. They offer your cat a comfortable place to rest and sleep.

Heavy Duty Monitoring Station

Bought for a neblung (very big, very fluffy, huge personality) who moved in but loved the garden and to be outside. Worth the cost as he used it pretty much every day and slept in the wicker basket during the summer. Depending on the season, it was a different area of the basket. It needs a flat area to be on; grass may be too rocky but concrete/stone is perfect. It's also heavy, which means that it won't be knocked over by a bounding cat, but can be tricky to move.

In use for over 10 years

We've had the scratching post out on the balcony exposed to wind and weather for over 10 years now. The cats love using it for sleeping and observing, but hardly ever for scratching. The UV light caused the dark nylon fabric to become slightly blotchy after a few years, then uneven patches appeared in the most exposed areas, and eventually, it developed tears. So, I’ve now mostly removed it with a cutter and painted the chipboard underneath with weatherproof paint. Brilliant!

Perfect!

We've had it on the rooftop terrace for 3 1/2 years now, through all kinds of weather. After cleaning it in spring, it looks as good as new. The cats absolutely love it. Thanks to its weight, it stays perfectly stable even during storms. Being on a rooftop terrace and in a corner house, we experience very strong weather conditions. But the scratching post handles it all without any issues!

The popular outdoor Karlie on the covered balcony was purchased at the beginning of 2015 and is still intact at the end of 2023 – 9th year! – amazing...!

Maybe I got an especially good model. Bought it at the beginning of 2015, and from December to March, it’s completely protected from the weather under a suitable cover (the cats sit on top of it during that time...). The only thing that became brittle was the cover of the large and medium plates (I bought patches for that, and they work wonderfully). The side basket has sagged under the weight of sometimes two cats since 2020, but it’s secured to the railing with tension straps. I’ll keep it for as long as it lasts.

The weave falls apart completely.

This is already the second outdoor scratching post I’ve bought. The first scratching post lasted a very long time, but after about 5 years, the sunlight caused the wrapping to disintegrate. With the "new" scratching post, the wrapping is still intact, but the entire wickerwork broke after just 2.5 years, even though I don’t leave the post outside during winter! This is not quality!!! I’m absolutely disappointed.

Never again

We've had the scratching post on our covered balcony for 4 years now, and in over 30 years of owning cats, we've never had such a poor-quality tree. It stays dry and is "only" exposed to the sun, but now the plastic on the baskets is practically breaking just from looking at it, and everywhere it's wrapped, it's falling apart. We've now bought different baskets since the columns and the base plate are still fine. Far too expensive for the durability—never again!

Used, plenty of lounging areas

A great idea for outdoor use. All three of our cats use the tree. We don’t yet know how it will look after a few weeks or months. We’re hoping it doesn’t fade and that the trunks stay white. The base plate is stable, even with three cats. However, the columns wobble a lot, even when just one cat climbs on them. We’re considering securing it to the railing to stabilise it without it being bothersome for the little tigers.

waterproof cat tower

I bought one of these for my cats which they love but sadly the bottom base where outside has rotted with the wet weather so now we cannot use it as it has completely collapsed everything else on it is ok so has not weathered very well

poor quality

I've been using this scratching post repeatedly for years because I need one for the terrace as well. The caves are fine, but the base plate is made of plywood and completely rots through. For the price, you'd expect them to come up with a better solution.

not permanently weatherproof

I've had the cat tree for quite some time now. Both the posts and the baskets are holding up well. But the base plate has completely disintegrated – underneath the plastic covering, it's just made of plywood... Now I’ll have to come up with something, as the cats absolutely love the tree. Perhaps the manufacturers should consider using a different base plate (weatherproof solid wood, plastic??), as that would make the product much more durable.

Never again without

We've had the scratching post on the balcony for two years now and wouldn't want to be without it. As soon as the balcony door opens, my cats are already sitting on the scratching post. I find it well-made and weatherproof. We clean and maintain it regularly so that our cats can enjoy it for many more years to come.

Rubbish

Far too heavy, primitive assembly, screws strip, overall too expensive and an imposition. Only plastic – no cat will sit on this synthetic material. Far too expensive for something made in Asia. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Can't fix together

This tree is beautifully made but totally spoilt by the instructions and looks like the wrong screws, we can't put it together been on all day.

Brilliant!!!

My three cats love it!! Very sturdy and perfect quality! The assembly instructions are a bit sparse, but it's really easy to put together! Definitely recommend buying!

Outdoor Cat Tree

Our cats have love this. As it sits in our catio, it’s been subjected to all weather conditions and after two years, the basket weaved material has broken down on the very top. This could be due to the cats sitting on the highest point. Well balanced for the height, but I feel it needs some reinforcement on the top section.

Great addition to garden

I didn't find this too difficult to put together so long as you concentrate. I did look at the other purchasers pictures as picture on box was opposite to instructions. Instruction picture was correct. The only thing I would say is when doing the base, leave the longer pole until after you have fitted the 2 shorter ones with the enclosed basket attached. No tools needed - very well made - if a bit pricy. Now need to get my cat to learn to love it - a bit suspicious of it at the moment!

Unfortunately, not permanently weatherproof.

The scratching post is sturdy, but after a few years, the fabric has faded and split in several places. As a result, rainwater has seeped in. The plastic rattan has become completely brittle from the sun and is crumbling. It’s no longer safe as the weave can no longer support the pressure of the cats' paws. Additionally, rainwater always collected in the hollow of the cushion, but I managed to fix this by inserting a larger eyelet at the lowest point.

Very pleased

Very pleased. Was worried about the assembly, but had no problem. I think perhaps that for the base the instructions note x 3 and I think because x 3 smaller bolts are required it is these x 3 bolts that are required. It’s not, it’s 3 of the larger bolts. Just look at the diagram carefully particularly the bolt pictures, they are correct, but you will end up in a pickle if you use the wrong ones! Seems sturdy, cats haven’t been on it yet as it’s cold and they glued to thier radiator beds 😀

Average

We’ve had the scratching post since early 2017. It’s on the balcony, covered, no rain gets to it, but it’s exposed to sunlight. In the first year, the sisal (well, it’s not really sisal, just some kind of plastic rope) started to unravel, and now the baskets are ruined. Overall, I find it a bit of a shame that the thing doesn’t last longer. I don’t think it’s exactly cheap, and two years is really quite short for the price.

Big enough for four.

Well packaged & built as follows: 1. Screwed in two shorter base pieces, followed by the 'cave'. 2. Screwed in the longer base and slotted the open bed on top. 3. Screwed in the smaller mid-piece followed by the tray. 4. Slotted on the longer mid piece. 5. Screwed in the top post and the half open bed. Building was relatively straightforward once I'd studied it for a bit. It wobbles when the cats jump on it (hence the 4 stars) but this doesn't put them off.
