This pellet litter is praised for being highly absorbent, dust-free, and not tracking, making it suitable for sifting trays. However, it is not clumping, leading to high consumption and odor issues. Some customers found it too coarse and unsuitable for their cats, causing reluctance to use the litter box. Despite mixed reviews, it offers a wood scent and can deter rodents and stray cats when used outdoors. Overall, opinions vary on its effectiveness.

Unsuitable as cat litter
As a user of Cat's Best Nature Gold cat litter, I wanted to try the cheaper alternative and was very disappointed. The litter has no clumping function whatsoever. The liquid passes straight through to the bottom, despite using a generous amount. There, it forms a sandy, clay-like residue. Due to the good odour control, it doesn't get a failing grade.

Very good cat litter for large groups and kittens
Since Cats Best clumping litter is very expensive and we run a foster home, we decided to go for this more affordable option. We empty the litter boxes very frequently to prevent infections, and we also need large quantities of litter to accommodate the number of animals. This litter binds urine odour excellently, has a pleasant natural scent, and leaves no residue in the litter box. You spread it out flat as it swells up quite a lot and then crumbles. This makes maintaining litter box hygiene for many animals manageable and saves money. In cases of infections with Giardia or other parasites/gastrointestinal pathogens, the litter needs to be changed and disposed of daily – no problem here either. Cats in quarantine cages also accept this litter immediately, and playful kittens can nibble on the pellets without any risk to their health. There’s hardly any mess around the litter boxes. It’s also great for filling toilet corners for rabbits and guinea pigs. If you clean your litter boxes daily to remove faeces, you shouldn’t have any issues with odour. This litter can easily compete with expensive brands.

Not suitable for cats
This has very little to do with cat litter. While it is immediately accepted (though my two ladies aren’t picky anyway), it doesn’t contain the smell at all. The whole flat now reeks of their leftovers. This means the litter box has to be cleaned out after every visit. On top of that, the litter disintegrates when it comes into contact with urine, but it doesn’t clump, which makes scooping it out quite a hassle.
For rodents and small animals, it might be fine – but it has no place in cat litter boxes. Never again.

Not suitable for cats
I was looking for an alternative to Cat's Best Nature Gold and decided to try these pellets (CB Universal). The acceptance was great; the Coonies went straight into the litter box. Unfortunately, I wasn’t satisfied at all. The problem is that the litter disintegrates, and after a very short time, you’re left with nothing but dust in the box. This means you have to replace the entire litter quite early. The affordable price quickly loses its appeal. On the plus side, the area around the litter box stays clean because the large pellets don’t stick to the fur and aren’t carried around the house, but the smell becomes unpleasant after a short while. I don’t have these issues (disintegration and odour) with Nature Gold. I’ll stick with Nature Gold, even though it’s a bit more expensive. My Coonies like it, and so does my nose. 😊

Great for a rabbit litter tray
Top product for my rabbit's litter box. I keep my two little sweethearts in a large enclosure in the flat, and I only use this bedding for the rabbits' toilet. I also have five guinea pigs, but I find it unsuitable for them as it's quite rough on their feet. Odour control is excellent, and it has a pleasant woody smell. I clean the rabbit litter box daily, and you can’t smell a thing! Feel free to check it out—I’ve uploaded a picture of the enclosure with the toilet. Just look under customer images, Jennifer. Maybe other rabbit owners can get some inspiration and give their furry friends a bit more space.

Disappointed With This Product Not For Cats
I bought this for my 2 cats as my usual Cats Best Gold is proving expensive and does leave some tracking: after reading the mixed reviews of the Universal litter i thought i,d give it a go but wish i hadn,t wasted the money buying 2 x 10 l bags as it isn,t really for cats; it is difficult to tell which pellets have actually been used and there is vast amounts of powder left at the bottom of the litter tray when my cats have used it and i end up scooping out pellets which do not appear to have been used which are mixed in with the powder. I have 2 trays and only used one of the trays to try this product. My boys don,t seem to like it either and much prefer the usual Gold litter so i,ve now had to go back to that. The only "plus" i can give the Universal is that it doesn,t track but my 2 boys and I are very disappointed with this product.

Only partially suitable for cats
I wanted to experiment a bit and ended up trying Cat’s Best Universal.
We have five cats. I spread the pellets in one of the litter boxes.
The advantage is definitely that the flat stays clean; I couldn’t find any pellets on the floor. The litter box was used frequently, so the litter seems to be liked. But that brings us to the negative points.
The disadvantages are definitely that it smells awful because the pellets don’t “encase” the solid waste.
Moisture causes the pellets to disintegrate. Not clumping at all.
For small animals, it’s certainly an alternative, but for kitties and their business, it’s pretty unsuitable :-)
I’d rather stick to Cat’s Best Öko Plus litter :-)

Ideal value for money
I use this litter in the rabbit's toilet because clumping litter isn't allowed for small animals. And unlike various other wood and straw pellets, the price here is simply unbeatable.

Perfect!
I’ve been looking for good litter for a long time and have finally found it. No other litter will come into our home now. My cats like it, I like it because it immediately neutralises odours, and there’s no more annoying bag carrying either.

Perfect for rabbits
I've now tried various types, and this is the best.
However, I think it's only suitable for small animals that are litter-trained! For guinea pigs, it's too hard and definitely not suitable as the sole bedding (like in customer photo no. 2 – absolutely not!).
Since it crumbles when rabbits urinate on it, you can dispose of it super easily without having to empty the entire litter tray straight away.
I recommend everyone, for safety reasons (so it doesn't get eaten), to add a thin layer of bedding on top.
It should be clear to every cat owner that this isn't necessarily suitable for cats. So why is it rated poorly?
NOWHERE does it say anything about clumping litter, especially since clumping litter would be completely unsuitable for small animals (if clumping litter is eaten, it clumps in the stomach, and the outcome should be obvious).

NO cat litter
I bought this litter once because it was suggested to me as an alternative to SaniCat when that wasn’t available. BUT: This doesn’t deserve the name or even the category of cat litter. This is only suitable for small animals, but cats???
Never.

Cat's Best Universal
This is one of the best products for use in the rabbit hutch or in the rabbit pen as a base layer (with straw on top). It absorbs well and doesn’t smell much. I would buy it again and happily recommend it to others.

Good bedding
Good bedding for my rabbits. I use it in the rabbit toilet. The only downside... if you leave the bag somewhere... the wood pellets have started to smell very unpleasant.
Otherwise, it absorbs well.

Not suitable for cats
I cannot recommend these pellets for the cat litter box. Our cat (she’s six months old) didn’t know what to do with them at all. Instead, she chose a corner in the bathroom to do her business. While she did her bigger business in the box, she didn’t use it for the smaller one. For whatever reason. After just two days, I ended up throwing the pellets away completely.
The product only gets stars because it’s well-suited for guinea pigs. With a layer of straw on top, they feel perfectly comfortable.
However, I wouldn’t necessarily use the pellets in a birdcage either – far too coarse. They can’t peck or rummage around on the ground at all. For our aviary, I prefer using beech wood.

Super absorbent
I’ve tried so many things for my little long-haired guinea pigs, but Cats Best is truly the best. A layer of straw on top and the little ones feel right at home. Hardly any odour, which is the most important thing for me.

Absolutely TOP for guinea pigs!!!
I can't judge whether this litter is suitable for cats etc., but for my gang of guinea pigs, it's perfect! I spread it on the floor, then put a thick layer of wood shavings on top – this makes it nice and soft for the piggies, but the moisture is absorbed brilliantly and there's absolutely no smell! I can highly recommend it!

Cat's Best Universal - the best litter ever - even for our ferret!!!
We use Cat's Best Universal for our ferret. This litter is truly completely odourless – at most, it smells like fresh wood, so no artificial additives are needed! It is very absorbent and binds odours perfectly (we previously used another type of litter that was very grainy; it smelled really unpleasant and even damaged our parquet floor). This wood litter is made entirely of plant fibres, so it’s 100% ecological and therefore easy to dispose of – we can simply throw it in the organic waste bin or even flush it down the toilet. The litter doesn’t produce dust, so it doesn’t unnecessarily dirty the cage (ferrets love to dig – but not in this litter, so there’s no mess in the cage! :)
We also found it super convenient to use this natural litter while on holiday: in the transport cage, there was no “sandbox” effect, and odours and moisture were perfectly absorbed. At the next stop, we were able to clean the cage in no time. The litter is easy to scoop out with a small shovel and doesn’t need to be completely replaced often. It essentially gets used up gradually – we simply combine the litter from two toilets and refill the other one with fresh litter. A clean and practical solution – both at home and on the go!
The price-performance ratio is absolutely spot on; we can’t imagine a better litter!!!
Thank you for this idea and for offering such a great product!

NOT FOR CATS!!!
It is stated that it is also suitable for cats.
Here is your information:
Pure plant fibre pellets as bedding for rodents, birds, and cats, natural odour control, good absorbency.
However, the pellets are not suitable for cats at all. The bedding smells of urine and within a very short time, it disintegrates into wood dust (1-2 days). The wood dust then has no effect whatsoever.
I was very disappointed to find out that these are just "normal wood pellets". You could use them to fuel your pellet stove as well. The pellets are exactly the same. The bedding costs several times more than regular heating pellets.
All in all, not suitable for cats and very disappointing.

Wonderful Stuff!!!
Just tried this for the first time after being a huge fan of silica cat litter.... this is so far, sooooooooo much better!!!! I breed cats and have a lot of waste litter normally, with this - none. Waste gets flushed and is biodegradable! it covers odours well and I think I've just been converted.... thank you!!!!
