Aumüller Bicycle Basket

Very good, I'm completely satisfied.

My Yorkie weighs 5 kg... the standard size is absolutely not sufficient for that. It's going back!! Furthermore, the metal bar only goes halfway across the underside of the basket, which makes the whole thing very unstable. I've now opted for the Maxi and I'm very satisfied.

The basket is a nice size and can be used not only on the bike. Simply unscrew the frame and set it up as a sleeping and snuggle basket in the house. It's great for use with puppies when you don't want them running around the entire flat.

We use the bike basket for our 7.5kg pug. The basket is really lovely and very sturdy, and with the included mounting system, it can be attached to almost any city bike (it doesn’t work on mountain bikes). The dog can even sit upright under the protective grid.

We are still in the acclimatisation phase, so we haven’t gone for a ride yet. Both of them like to lie inside, even together. And even when both are inside, there’s still plenty of space to spread out ample insulating padding throughout the basket in winter if needed. (see customer photos) I’ll be adding a cat net to the grille, as the gaps between the bars are partially “cat-passable.” The workmanship seems very high-quality and sturdy so far.

The basket has been in use for 8 years now, currently being used by our second dog. Cycling with it is no problem. A clear recommendation from me.

At first, I placed the basket in the living room to give the dog (12.5 kg) the chance to inspect it on her own. My dog immediately lay down in it. I did, however, put a softer cushion inside. While cycling, she sat calmly in the back and seemed comfortable and secure. Assembly was a bit fiddly, but now it’s rock-solid. Delivery was quick as promised. We’re thrilled...

I definitely can't understand the negative reviews. We were searching for a bike basket for a long time for our lazy-to-walk Mini American Shepherd!!! She weighs around 12kg, and finding a bike basket for her proved to be extremely difficult. Well, this basket holds our 12kg lady perfectly, it doesn't wobble, and the attachment is very sturdy too. She can lie down comfortably and has a great view since the bars of the cover are spaced far apart. You don't notice the weight on the bike because the mount isn't attached directly to the handlebars. A great solution for us!

Since I’ve read some of the less favourable reviews here, I thought I’d share my experience too. We’ve had the basket for 8 years now. Our dachshund weighs 7.5 kg. When mounting it onto a new bike, a new bracket was necessary due to the different diameter of the head tube. This wasn’t an issue with the Aumüller basket. Thanks to the attachment to the frame (not the handlebars), riding is absolutely safe. I can only recommend it. And as for rain or sun protection or a nice cushion, surely everyone can come up with their own ideas. So, 5 stars!

Basically, I would say that the basket itself is very good. I’d rate the bike mount a 2. This year, I noticed a crack in the bike mount... I’ll have to buy a new mount. Here’s how the basket was used: - 8-9kg - every 2 days - Asphalt, forests, fields & often very bumpy spots (high kerbs, cracks in the road, tree roots on paths, etc.) - Bike tours ranging from 2 to 26km

I have a very lively little 6kg terrier who wants to chase every squirrel and cat from the bike and behaves like a wild thing. This basket really offers the perfect way to transport my pet. Thanks to the sturdy mounting on the head tube rather than the handlebars, I feel completely secure even in heavy traffic on my e-bike. In rain and cold, the dog can be perfectly protected with blankets and protective covers. I’m absolutely satisfied with this purchase.

I bought the basket for my Bolonka dog (3.8kg). The first thing that bothered me was that the basket doesn’t come with a cushion, just a thin waterproof mat. I find it uncomfortable for my dog. My dog can move her head through the bars, which isn’t good during the ride. Furthermore, I think the basket feels very, very, very unstable and wobbly. Especially when riding up or down the pavement or on a dirt track, the basket bounces a lot. I wouldn’t buy the basket again and will probably get a different one. Such a shame.

Bought this basket two years ago for my Jack Russell puppy. Assuming my puppy would be bigger when she reached adulthood I bought a bigger basket as I was concerned about weight limits. Well, my puppy grew up to be one of the smallest JRTs ever and she runs alongside the bike now but I still think the basket is one of the best around. Yes, it is a bit bulky and it does take some getting used to (a few seconds?) but I managed alright with a full basket at the front and my daughter on a tag-along bike at the back--you get a few smiles as you go along. As my dog is so small, I often carry my rucksack, toys and coats as well. If installed correctly the bracket keeps the basket locked in position and has a very solid feel about it. It's very easy to take out the basket and put it back on. I also use a normal mesh basket when I don't need the doggy basket and the Aumuller bracket doesn't interfere at all. The cage is also very handy (especially if your puppy considers it her duty to chase every cat she comes accross). Two years on I'm still using the basket occasionally when having to deal with heavy traffic. Poppy runs alongside the bike until we get to the more dangerous area, where I undo the cage straps, tell Poppy to climb up my leg (handy trick) and transfer her to her basket without any need to get off the bike; as soon as it's safe she's back on the ground again. For this reason, the straps have endured heavvier use than you'd expect in a basket that is not used that often and they're still in very good condition--worth noting as they looked a bit flimsy to me. All in all, very good quality but bear in mind you will have a BIG basket in front of you when cycling.

We have a Motorhome and travel often throughout Europe. Having acquired a puppy we wanted a basket to put on our moped so we could continue to explore. The basket works brilliantly on the moped with our cocker spaniel settling down fine to enjoy the ride. We did try on our bike but it was too unstable.

Fast delivery. The basket looks quite nice, but for longer trips, it’s made of thin wicker that doesn’t inspire much confidence. A suitable cushion is missing, and the protective cover has to be ordered separately. Only three rather "cheap" fastening straps. Unstable ride when the 5.5 kg tomcat moves around in the basket. Conclusion: Not recommended.

We received the large basket for mounting on the steering tube after just 2 days! Brilliant! We were absolutely thrilled. It’s easy to assemble, spacious enough for our 10kg furry treasure, and looks great. The only downside for me is that the fun of riding is somewhat compromised due to stability issues. If the dog lies completely to the right or left, the bike tilts so much that it becomes very difficult to ride calmly and straight. Therefore, I don’t think I’d want to use it for really long distances. 3 stars because of the riding characteristics. Everything else is good, and we’re definitely keeping the basket.

I've been using this basket on my second bike now for about 10 years, and two years ago I also got one for the luggage rack for my second dog. I'm just super satisfied, never had any issues with straps or anything else. With proper installation, there are no problems. It's Pekingese dogs that sit in there.

I ordered this bike basket for my Toller puppy. At first, I accidentally ordered the "large" size – the basket is absolutely huge, so I had to exchange it for the "small" size, which is much smaller in comparison. BUT the small size fits perfectly for our puppy, and I think it will still be suitable next summer. The attachment to the bike is fantastic because the basket isn’t hung on the handlebars but screwed onto the bike frame. This makes riding very comfortable, and we don’t have any stability issues when "loading and unloading."

The basket is brilliant – we had it at home within two days, and assembling it was a piece of cake. Our Jack Russell, Snoopy, loves feeling the wind in his ears, and we’re thrilled to have found a basket with handlebar mounting that isn’t too expensive. We had to search for quite a while to find the most affordable basket.

We received the large bike basket with protective grid yesterday and tried it out straight away in the evening – we were immediately very satisfied. The basket is very spacious, sturdy – simply brilliant. We can even reuse the existing bike mounts from our child seat.
