Royal Canin Veterinary – Renal in pouches is very palatable and suitable for cats with chronic kidney disease. Cats with CKD often go off their food but the right diet is an important part of treating cats with renal disease. If it is left untreated renal disease can lead to further complications including urinary stones.
Royal Canin Renal is a long-term feeding solution for cats with kidney disease and hepatic encephalopathy. It is tailored to meet the specific nutritional requirements and helps to reduce kidney workload. It contains an antioxidant complex, alkalinising agents and a low phosphorus level, all of which help with the treatment of chronic kidney disease.
Indications:
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD)
- Prophylactic prevention of urate and cystine stones stones
- Prophylactic prevention of calcium oxalate stones with simultaneous renal insufficiency
- Pregnancy, lactation, kittens
- Dietetic management of chronic kidney disease: Formulated to support kidney function in case of chronic renal disease. With EPA and DHA, an antioxidant complex and low phosphorus content
- Reduces kidney workload: An increased kidney workload can lead to a uremic crisis. This food has an adapted high quality protein content which helps to reduce the kidney workload.
- Metabolic equilibrium: CKD can lead to metabolic acidosis. This wet food is formulated with alkalinising agents.
- Well accepted: The tasty food is highly palatable and will tempt your cat to eat.
- It is advisable to keep your cat on this diet for the rest of its life. Early dietetic measures to treat CKD are recommended.
Therapeutic veterinary diets are carefully formulated and recommended to be used in conjunction with veterinary advice and support.

My cat really loved this and would eat it when she would eat nothing else.

One likes it, one doesnt
My phoebe loves this. Eats it all with very few teeth. However, my ragdoll only likes to lick the gravy. Phoebe maintains a good weight on this and has been going strong since her diagnosis in 2023

Mono-kidney hero
My cat has one kidney now so needs renal food. Although he ate another brand voraciously, post-op, he hadn't eaten in nearly 2 days before/after the op. and when his senses came back not only did he not like the other brand it really upset his tum. So I was advised to try another brand, picked Royal Canin, just the renal care type and was overjoyed to see him tucking into the Chicken and Fish varieties which eventually settled his tum - added in beef and his tum got upset again so beware.
Good renal food
My 15 year old cat with kidney disease likes Royal Canin Renal with Chicken (but not Fish or Beef flavours). We've tried a couple different brands and she prefers this one to Hills. This food helped her maintain a good weight.

The food needs more gravy
Puree it!
My cat has been eating this product for over a year now. Initially he wasn't interested in it at all - in all 3 flavours - except for licking off the gravy of which there seems to be less of than when we were first buying it. However, I tried pureeing it with a couple of spoons of water added and then he was happy to eat it.

Our nearly 19 year old likes this one the most.She Wil eat more of it,than anything else.It has a nice chicken small,easy to eat thin slices,and gravy.Could do with a little more gravy tho,and a lower price!

We tried this food on our vets recommendation for our very elderly cat. Unfortunately he refused to eat it and has now had to be put to sleep.

The Only One!
After trying 3 other brands including the big names with no success Royal Canin finally came up trumps. Tried both Chicken and Tuna and my cat like both..in fact hes seems to love it and doesn't leave any.

Oscar loves it!
We were advised by our vet to put our 22 year old cat Oscar on a kidney-friendly diet as tests showed he was on stage 2 of kidney disease. We were a little concerned as Oscar has rejected special diet food in the past (he was on weight loss food many years ago, but we had to abandon it and use other methods!), but he is absolutely loving this food! He devours it as soon as it hits the bowl. He actually prefers it to the senior food he was eating previously!

Brilliant
Our 9 year old bengal was diagnosed with kidney problems so we were advised to change her diet to something more renal friendly. She goes absolutely mental for these sachets and they are a great compliment with the dry food. I have never seen her this happy about eating and the transition between her old food to this was so easy.

Royal Canin Renal Food Miracle!
19 year old Molly was in a sorry state after a kidney infection, and because of her age, stage 2 KD and some heart disease her vet didn't want to prescribe anything that might make matters worse. So we were resigned to the fact that Molly's life was drawing to a close. Well after a month on his diet, she shows an interest in food, has put on weight, her coat is glossy, she is passing more urine (presumably her kidneys are having less of a struggle). energy levels have increased too. Amazing!
