Chappie Original has been a lifesaver for many dogs with sensitive stomachs, recommended by vets and loved by pets. However, recent changes in the recipe have left many owners disappointed, with complaints about altered texture, smell, and increased grain content. Despite these issues, some dogs still enjoy it, and it remains a valued option for those seeking an affordable wet food solution. Overall, Chappie has been a trusted choice, but recent changes have stirred mixed feelings.

Change in recipe
We have been using Chappie for 30+ years and in all that time we have been more than happy with it, the dogs have loved it and all was right with the world. However this last year there seems to have been a change to the recipe , making it dry and crumbly. The dogs don’t like it and they struggle to eat it. It’s a shame the company felt the need to change what clearly was a successful brand that was recommended by vets.

Gentle food, easy on stomach
I've fed my dogs Chappie for probably 50 years now on the recommendation of my vet. I do have to watch the amount very carefully or they put on weight rapidly. Manufacturers' recommended amounts are 3 times w hat mine need. The price has increased horrifically.

Nice and gentle
Nice and gentle - easy to digest for a pooch with delicate digestion! Never anything left in the bowl!

My dogs favourite
I have bought from Zooplus for many years for all my pets. It is great to see this product available for delivery in quantities. People always comment on how healthy my dogs look. I have never had a problem with delivery. Always delivered quickly. so we never run out.

Change in recipe
Unfortunately Chappie Original is not as good as it used to be, the recipe appears to have changed again, it is very dry and much paler in colour, I wish I had kept an older empty tin to see what is different now. This is not the first time they have changed recipe. All 3 of my dogs used to love Chappie, now only one will eat it and he’s the one that will eat anything! This is not helpful when one of my dogs has allergies but Chappie original didn’t cause him any issues, he now refuses to eat!

Excellent service
I would recommend zooplus from ordering to the quick efficient service ,
My dogs can only eat Chappie original and its works wonders for my two dogs

Changed ingredients
I’ve been buying Chappie original for my two rescue dogs for years, despite its increasingly high price. But my last 24 cans are no where near as good, full of large lumps of white fat. I won’t be buying anymore.

Chapoie wet dog food
The product when bought in a large pack is 100% different to the tins bought in a six pack costing double the price my dog will not eat any of the chappie I bought from pets at home large pack just to prove a point I bought a six pack double the money and she ate it no large bits of corn in this thought it was sweetcorn in the food she will not eat it it’s mushy and full of white fat on the other hand the small packs are ok is it cheap shit they put on the large multi packs something is not

Teeth and part of a jaw was the final straw!
I am sad to say after many years I had to stop feeding the dogs Chappie. I began to notice my springer looked tatty, her coat lost its shine and handfuls of hair were falling out. My bichon recently suddenly declined, I thought perhaps it was her time but on discovering a lump of jaw bone complete with teeth left in her dish! Original? I think not - just my opinion.
Lilly’s kitchen came to the rescue and sorted her out and she’s happy again!

Why did they change it
My sensitive frenchie, with allergies and pancreatitis has been on chappie for a couple of years now. It was the only thing that was low fat enough and didn’t aggravate his allergies. The last two batches have been completely different - very pale, smells different and totally different consistency. He’s itching like crazy and has an upset stomach again. Why did you change it chappie!!! Noooo!

Chappie
Hi, same issue as other people, my retriever won't touch it now although always loved it in the past..
Regardless of what Mars are saying the receipe has definatley changed & I noticed the difference as soon as I opened the tin, looks like its been bulked up with more grain & less meat !!
Although more expensive.

The recipe for the original chappie I have been having for years has changed. I contacted Mars and the reply was no not changed. I liked the low fat but you can clearly sed the fat when you open the tin. It has also become very expensive and not easy to obtain. I am looking at Butchers lean and tasty as an alternative. Very dissapointed.

Chappie has changed!!
Chappie has changed. From being a tin with solid cut with a knife product I now have tins full of a product which contains liquid and a mushy product. I also have a dog with a poorly tummy !!
Have contacted Mars who produce Chappie but as yet have no reply!!

Best balanced dog food out
Chappie Original has settled my dog’s digestive intolerances without him needing to give up wet food. It was veterinary recommended & I too recommend it.
Dog won’t eat it
Chappie appears to have changed the original recipe. Just bought 48 cans and my dog won’t touch it. Previously had no problems with him refusing this food. The new cans are different in texture and smell. Not happy. Can Chappie producer explain

recipe change or labelling error?
Previously used this to tempt my fussy dog, she loves it. Happy to find full trays of just original, as she hates the chicken and rice one. However, this doesn't appear to be original which is dark, moist and with a strong smell. This is very pale, dry & grainy with almost no smell, just like the chicken and rice one. Either the recipe has changed hugely or there has been a labelling error. Either way I'm stuck with 22 cans of a food my dog won't touch.

It's changed
Our dog benefitted hugely by changing to chappie wet food. But the consistency of the product has changed in the last few months. And it's not helping our dog as it used to. Previously I had a lot of Praise for this product

Game Changer
My dog has never had wet food, always dry or chicken and rice. However having being very poorly we have had to completely change her diet. We was recommended thhis wet food by our vetsand well it's gone down a treat with my 3 YO Cocker! She loves it along with the chappie biscuits. I think great value for money as 1 tine does last her 2 -4 meals depending.
