Product description

Complete dry food in a new recipe, tailored to pregnant dogs between 26-44kg and their puppies during the weaning phase, helping to support immune system and metabolism, with beneficial prebiotics.

Healthy startRoyal Canin Maxi Starter Mother & Babydog has been specially developed to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant dogs and their puppies. The recipe is ideal for large adult dogs weighing between 26-44kg during the final third of their pregnancy, as well as for weaning their puppies to the age of 2 months. As large dogs often have bigger litters, with sometimes more than 10 puppies, their metabolism has more work to do.
Puppy growthThe recipe of this Royal Canin Maxi Starter Mother & Babydog contains a proven complex of vitamins C and E to support optimum immune system development. A combination of beneficial prebiotics (such as MOS) and highly-digestible proteins allow this Royal Canin Maxi Starter Mother & Babydog to help maintain balance in the gut flora and support healthy digestion. This kibble is also enriched with omega-3 fatty acids (such as DHA), which support normal brain development in young puppies.

Easy to digest
I have been using this food for at least 15 years and have had amazing results. My shepherds have beautiful fur and are in great shape with healthy teeth... I don't need a single supplement. Their poos have a good consistency which shows that they are digesting their food well. Someone convinced me to try a different brand and I was so happy when it was over and I could go back to this! There's nothing like it!

Very easy to digest
I have been using this for at least 15 years now. My shepherds have beautiful fur and are the picture of health, great teeth etc... I don't use any kind of supplements with this. The little poos they do are firm and small, which is a good sign and means the food is being well digested. It is definitely a high quality product. Someone convinced me to give another brand a go once. I was so happy when the bag was finished... no comparison :-(

Superb food for GSD
Ok so I research until I'm comfortable that the four legged family member is getting the best for the price. I have tried all the so called top end foods and can say with certainty that this is the only one which gives consistent results in my dog! I would gladly spend the sometimes unbelievable prices for dog food if I thought it was doing any good, but believe me when you pay a small fortune and then have a dog who has the runs after a mere few handfuls of food is not much fun. And the rations on these top end foods leave a lot to be desired. To me Royal canin is for anyone who has a GSD and is struggling with digestion issues etc, overall my dog is a picture of health, shiny coat, lovely temperament and no eye/teeth issues etc, now this in part to getting her from a great and respected breeder, but the food plays a massive role in her wellbeing. The only other food option better would be RAW, and I refuse to feed that for many reasons inc salmonella around the house and grounds! Royal Canin from me is 9/10, it would get 10 but I feel they should just have a little bit more transparency in their meat processing etc but hey can't have it all Oh and btw in my opinion dogs are not wolves and even the German shepherd has adapted and been domesticated to eat other items than meat! Zoo plus do 10/10 from me in terms of service and delivery

Testing this product
We are trying this food for the following reasons: our puppy picks at the current food we give her (normal brand from a supermarket) and then can be really frantic and tbh mental at times knocking the kids over, it's like she's got ADHD. She is pooing still around 6 times a day!! Plus she is often doing loose poos. This is a pita and I've checked every other possible cause and I can only guess it's the food. She smells within a few hours of being bathed and moults like crazy. Her coat looks ok but it's not shiny. Today is day 1, I was surprised how little she is supposed to eat and just gave her her half portion for tea. Well I have never seen her eat ANYTHING so fast. I will post again in a fortnight to update the situation on all of the above.

Very good for mums and pups
This is my second time using this with a might German Shepherd, and she loves eating it. The puppies look good, and the mum's poo has a nice consistency. All good!

Best food to bring up puppies!
This is the best food you can bring your dog up with, and it does wonders for the mum too!! The puppies are nice and strong, with healthy bones and lots of energy and concentration!! Obviously you have to start off with the mousse before switching over to the dry food mixe with a bit of water 4 weeks in. Then from 5 weeks onwards just the dry food, no water. They love it!

Did the trick
I've got a 2.5 year old Hungarian Wiredhaired Vizsla, who was losing weight just after a year, though he always had looser stools in this initial puppy year. In hindsight I think this was down to him being given snacks as treats, especially rawhhide ones; maybe I was overloading his tummy. I then had enzyme tests run on him to the tune of over £1000 at the vets and given a hypoallergenic food which worked and stabilised him but which cost £80 a 15kg bag. Allhis tests came back OK but I discovered he was on the lower end of a scale but within range for digestive sensitivities. I then tried a sensitive version of this Royal Canin there was no success then inadvertently ordered the normal one. This sorted him out and hes gained weight to a lovely 32kg dog with no more ribs showing. I would definitely recommend this product.
