Product description

Complete food for cats with chronic renal insufficiency. This great-tasting, dietetic wet cat food is grain-free and has a reduced protein and phosphorus content to help take pressure of the kidneys.

Smilla Veterinary Diet Renal is a therapeutic complete wet cat food. This delicious grain-free food is formulated to suit the specific nutritional needs of adult cats with kidney disease, such as chronic renal insufficiency. It helps to relieve the pressure on the kidneys. If your cat suffers from impaired kidney function some parts of the kidney are often irreversibly damaged. The intact parts then must take over all functions. In order to relieve the kidneys, it is important to feed your cat a food that contains just a little, high-quality protein. It should also have a low phosphorus content. Smilla Veterinary Diet Renal has reduced protein and phosphorus levels. The amount of animal protein in this wet food is sufficient to meet your cat's nutritional requirements. This cat food is made with easy to digest potatoes as a source of healthy carbohydrates. Smilla Veterinary Diet Renal dietetic food is grain-free so it is suitable for cats that are grain and gluten intolerant.

My cat prefers this out of many tried
My cat was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. I ordered a selection of renal foods to try. She will normally eat anything put in front of her but this was the only wet renal food that she would eat. She also loved the Smilla renal dry.

A no from my cat unfortunately
Tried this food with my 18 year old cat who is not normally fussy, but unfortunately she would only lick the jelly from the top and would leave the rest, tried multiple times even tried mixing salmon oil with one to make it more edible but would leave 90% of the tin each time. Will not be ordering again unfortunately.

Excellent cat food
My 10 year old male Siamese adores this food. He has a very sensitive stomach and is very choosy about his food, making it extremely difficult to find something that he likes. I bought this product for the first time recently and it is a great success.

Finally She Eats!
Having tried the main renal brands Hills and Purina (without success) our poorly kitty was refusing all food. That was when we found this. It resembles a wet pate but unlike other renal foods it actually smells edible! Our cat loves the beef flavour and is eating again! I can't recommend this enough. Renal kitties dont have much appetite for anything so it's definitely worth trying this,

Simple pate.
My 18 year old fussy eater did not like this pate. He is not a big fun of pate in a first place, but he is eating some pates of different manufacturers. This was a firm "no" from him.

Since having a diagnosed with chronic kidney disease my cats taste for food and texture has changed.
Older cats lose interest faster with food and with play. My cat used to be all about pate. Not any more. With this particular food my cat likes it cut in small chunks, and not too many on plate. :-) There are some grizzly bits in it just get rid of those. Sometimes to get her interested I add couple pieces of dry food. Variety is the key at this point.

So far so good!
Our extremely fussy 7 year old Ragdoll so far seems to chomping this down - we’ve tried Royal Canin, Kattovit and Purina Pro plan and he’s turned his nose up at it all. He has a protein losing nephropathy and has lost so much weight, so was desperate to get some calories into him. Shame there’s only chicken flavour!

Great for my 20 year old cat who is very very picky
It has been very difficult finding something my old cat likes. She is 20-years old with kidney problems.. I've sometimes spent hours getting her to eat little bits of other foods but this one she eats all straight off

Inedible
The older cat who is on a renal diet often doesn't eat all of a renal food... This one she didn't even lick, one sniff and gone. The other cat, who is a walking dustbin and eats pretty much everything wouldn't touch it either.

Absolute Rubbish
Don't buy this. Overpriced garbage. Cat i bought it for barely touched it; so as an experiment i tried it on my two others, and two neighbour cats - Nobody liked it !!! That's five cats that thought it was inedible. Looks nasty too.

Current favourite
The texture might not look particularly appealing to humans, but this is the only food my cat is consistently eating at the moment (mixed with a pouch of Cosma chicken & pumpkin soup and phosphorus binder). She's gone off (and occasionally back on) pretty much every food I've tried, bar this one.

Cat won’t even consider it
I have four cats and not one would even consider it. Must be vile. Texture is a grainy pate.

Matter of taste
Packaging looks good BUT I am not in the habit of sampling cat products. Bother my cats, one lick and make a face and walk away! Tried them more than once, they will not eat it! Put it out for wildlife in garden they did not eat it either, it ended up in compost. Sorry! How do you test it for taste?

The only renal food my Burmese will eat!
I have tried every other brand of renal food, my Burmese would not touch any of them Had been reduced to feeding her Porta21holistic tuna & chicken. Only one brand & 1 flavour with low phosphorous. I still have a few tins of that & am mixing this very slowly to introduce. She is at 50/50 & so far not turned her nose up. You have to transition cats very slowly to a change of diet - this is also a change of texture & I can tell she isn't sure completely by the look on her face when eating.

Disgusting
Disgusting quality. Cat wouldn’t eat. Don’t buy. Choose integra or Royal Canin loaf pate instead.
