HUNTER Vario Basic Dog Lead - Black

I first ordered this lead in 2016 for my Mali mix, who weighed around 40 kilos. Apart from one seam coming slightly undone over time, the lead is still holding up today. It even withstands two Landseers weighing 60 and 75 kilos. I'm now ordering a second one and hope the quality is still as good as it used to be.

Lost the lead in the snow today, unfortunately, and I could cry because it was the best one I ever had. I hope the current model is as good as the one from 2013.

Unfortunately, with this successor model of the Vario Basic, one of the carabiners has been enlarged, so the lead now comes with two carabiners of different sizes. That might still be tolerable, but the larger carabiner is far too heavy for small dogs! It practically "bangs" against the animal's spine! The previous model of this lead was better, as it had small, lightweight, and equally sized carabiners. Such a shame, so we won’t be able to buy Hunter leads anymore.

It's a super great dog lead. But let's see how long it lasts. It's a bit too narrow.

The dog lead is quite okay, but not ideal. I spent quite a while deciding whether to order this one or the neoprene lead, also from Hunter. Unfortunately, I made the wrong choice. Since I have two dogs, I can use it for my small Dachshund mix (11kg). For my Terrier mix (17kg), it's not really suitable. When he pulls, it's quite uncomfortable on the hand due to the simple strap, so my recommendation is exclusively for small dogs. :-)

I've been using this lead daily for a few weeks now, and it's very sturdy and feels high-quality for the price. You definitely can't go wrong with it—I'd buy it again 👍🏼

The lead is exactly as expected, very simple, well-made, and adjustable. A lovely product!

Price-performance ratio = very satisfied. Unfortunately, it's a bit uncomfortable when the dog pulls hard, but otherwise, we're very satisfied.

Price-wise a bargain, quality-wise a good and sturdy lead.

Love these leads. I bought them so I could use the extra long length from horseback. However they are compact enough to stuff into a pocket just in case you need them and so easy to attach to a chair/table leg if you stop off for a 'swift half' at a dog friendly pub on the way home. I bought mine while they were half price and only wish I'd had the foresight to buy half a dozen more at the same time - as they are so discreet, I keep losing them!

I ordered this lead some time ago. My 35 kg "camel" likes to pull on the lead, especially when cats and the like cross our path. It doesn’t cut into your hand and feels comfortable to hold. I’d buy it again anytime if it ever happens to break.

My dog (who is absolutely not recallable) managed to completely tear out the carabiner after 9 months. The stitching came undone. Luckily, the dog is back, but after such a short period of time, I think this is a real defect.

I've been using this lead daily now, and my dog isn't exactly the calmest on the lead :) The lead is sturdy – no colour bleeding in the rain and it feels great in the hand. Simply top-notch – and the price is spot on too. Both owner and dog are happy with it :)

I took a gamble and bought two of these leads as I had given away my spares to my neighbour, and had another canine house guest (now a permanent fixture :)) who came with a horrible chain lead. What can I say - I love this lead. It's soft, lightweight, adjustable (when set to long it is great for recall training for a dog you're still getting to know). It's also adjustable in more than 3 ways if you just use your brain (can be made super short for busy crowds/heel training). Most pleased, excellent quality for a great price, and would definitely buy more as and when needed.

This lead is highly recommended without reservation. It withstands heavy use over a very long period of time.

Unfortunately, the lead was bitten through after just 1 hour, which is probably due to our dog's teething. However, he was not left unsupervised with the lead and still managed to tear it during a short walk. Such a shame!

I ordered this lead last week along with a large batch of chew bones because I wanted a lightweight, subtly black lead made of synthetic fibre again. For a price of just under €13, I was expecting somewhat mediocre quality, but I’m pleasantly surprised! The lead is made of fairly thick and soft nylon webbing, which feels pleasantly smooth in the hand and doesn’t cut into your hand even under tension. All attachment points for the carabiner hooks and rings are not only neatly welded but also additionally stitched. Whether the lead will maintain its quality over time remains to be seen once my 40-kilo black mongrel has had a few months of fun with it – but I’m optimistic. And if, for some reason, this lead does become unusable in a few months, I wouldn’t be particularly bothered about replacing it with a new one at this price.

The lead is sturdy and well-made. When set to the shortest length, the lead is threaded through the large ring, so no big loop is created that could potentially injure the dog. Our dog managed to chew through half the width of the lead within two months, which is why we ordered the same model again. The old lead held up bravely against the biting attacks, and even when it was already half-chewed, I never worried that it would break.
