Product description

A grain-free formula with delicious trout and smoked salmon, sweet potatoes, fruit and vegetable offering plenty of protein and a great taste, for all cat breeds and all stages of your cat’s life.
Taste of the Wild - Canyon River Feline cat food is made in the USA. It contains a delicious recipe with trout and smoked salmon, supplemented with sweet potatoes and peas. Taste of the Wild – Canyon River Feline is a grain-free dry food for your cat, offering optimum nutrition at all stages of life. The high protein content promotes vitality and health in all life phases and the natural antioxidants support your cat’s immune system. Taste of the Wild cat food is based on your cat’s original natural feeding habits in the wild, whilst also taking into account that the lifestyle of domestic cats has changed and your cat now has regular meals and is less active.

Taste of the Wild – Canyon River Feline at a glance:

  • Delicious trout and smoked salmon - selected ingredients with easy to digest protein and fats, they are a great source of energy for your cat
  • Grain-free - the grain-free formula provides your cat with a balanced nutrition and is the basis for good health. Many vets believe that grain in cat food is the reason for many health issues. The high carbohydrate content can lead to obesity, diabetes, digestive problems and other illnesses
  • A balanced mix of proteins ensures an optimal amino acid profile - amino acids are necessary to maintain good health. Ocean fish have a high active omega-3 fatty acid (DHA, EPA) content which is good for healthy skin and shiny fur
  • Good digestive system - dried chicory root and Yucca Schidigera extract support healthy gut flora and a good immune system, as well as improving the body’s natural defences
  • Natural antioxidants - fresh fruit and vegetable provide natural antioxidants and have a high zinc, vitamin e and selenium content.
  • Omega fatty acids - omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids complement each other and help to maintain a healthy skin and shiny fur
  • Sweet potatoes - exotic sweet potatoes are packed full of nutrients and contain vitamin B and vitamin C as well as minerals
  • Blueberries and raspberries - berries are rich in phytonutrients, which have antioxidative, cell protecting properties
  • Tomatoes - full of natural plant fibres and roughage for a healthy digestive system, tomatoes also contain health-giving vitamins and antioxidants such as beta-carotene and lycopene.
  • Chelated minerals - minerals and trace elements in natural, organically bound form, for improved absorption
Taste of the Wild – Canyon River Feline cat food is suitable for all cat breeds and sizes, and is cat food just as nature intended.

Cats don't like it

I used to buy Taste of the wild for my dog. Then I decided to try their cat food, and no one of my 4 cats likes this food. If mixed with other kibble, they'll be picking the other brand's bits and leave taste of the wild in the bowl. I like the idea that this food is for all life stages, and the ingredients seem to be lovely, but the smell is not attractive at all!

Chicken free!

One of our cats kept overgrooming. It was narrowed down to being an allergy, but didn't know which one. Someone told me cats can be allergic to chicken, but nearly every food contains it. This one doesn't. Since I started him on Canyon River his overgrooming stopped, he doesn't need allergy medication, and his belly is full of fur again. I can't praise this enough.

Expensive but worthwhile

We have a fussy Maine Coon breed who won't eat any other dry food other than this. It is a good all-round food, smells fine and is digested well. Shame it is so expensive in comparison to other dry food but nevermind.

Feed quality very good

The quality of the food is very good, no question about it. However, after not even three-quarters of a bag, my Muffin doesn’t seem to have much appetite for it anymore. She absolutely loved the other flavour and ate it down to the very last crumb!

Wow brilliant for my fussy eaters

I bought this for my very fussy three cats and it went down a treat. One of my cats has a very easily upset stomach and since a friend recommended Taste of the wild as it is grain free...she is now very healthy and no upset stomach. All three of my cats are doing really well on it, shiny coats and seem to be a lot happier. I have just tried the canyon river and they like this flavour too.

No likey

We don't like this at all. Mum tries to mix it in with our other kibble so we eat round it. The bag isn't resealable so Mum stashed it in an empty bag of James Wellbeloved hoping that it might help us eat it but we're not daft! Shame because it looked so nice and sounded very tempting.

Recipe "improved"!?

I've been buying it for almost two years, but now it's being rejected. Both purchased bags are left untouched, while the "leftover food" from the old bag is devoured. The dog eats it but gets diarrhoea from it. So, £74.90 straight into the bin... Therefore, no longer recommended!

My Bengal Boy

My Boy (Marley) will not touch this food, I have tried mixing it with other food, no good he just tries to scratch and cover it up. I am sure for many this is a good food but for this cat NO. From my point of view there is not any scent or smell from the food to attract a cat.

Top-notch feed!

This food is absolutely recommended! All cats eat it, it’s easily digested, and it contains good ingredients! Great fish variety!

Ordering again!

I have 3 Moggies who have always been fussy about what they eat and I am fussy about what I give them. As wet food causes problems in one of my cats, I needed to look for a dry food that was nutritious, not too rich as to upset their stomach but that was tasty enough for them not to get bored of it. Needless to say I have found the perfect food for my cats and am now ordering it again ( in bulk to save money!). Not only do my cats still love it but they are also in fantastic health and condition.

... is unfortunately shunned.

I have four cats in the house, and in addition, I also take care of some stray visitors outside, two of whom come regularly to eat. But whether it's my indoor cats or the strays outside, all of them are fed high-quality food—they all get the same. I ordered the Taste of the Wild - Canyon River Feline for the first time, and unfortunately, I have to say that my indoor cats don't like it at all. They either don't eat it or only nibble at it reluctantly. Even my tomcat Krümel—a mischievous glutton—completely refuses to touch the food. He’d rather eat nothing at all, which has never happened before. So now I’m feeding the food entirely to the stray cats outside, who devour it completely. I won’t be buying this food again and will go back to other grain-free options that all of them eat—such a shame.

Healthy and tasty!

My two tomcats always got diarrhoea and terrible bloating from the "well-known" branded foods; and they were never full either! After just 3 days on this food, I had completely happy cats! The composition of both varieties is excellent, and you can see it too – wonderful shiny coats and not an ounce of excess fat! Proper "muscle cats" ;)

Good dry food

Great dry food, used as an alternative to Applaws as it was on offer. Cat never knew the difference!

The best of the best

Completely free from the usual sugar and attractants, without any grain additives, and at an absolutely fair price – what more could you ask for? My two Whiskas, Royal Canin, and Felix junkies gratefully accepted both varieties after a lengthy but successful weaning process and a dry food abstinence.

Pricey but worth it!

I was quite hesitant to purchase this due to the price and my 4 cats being sooo fussy, but it sounded great for their digestion and with all the natural ingredients, i was even more tempted. I'm so glad I did they all tucked in straight away, and the bag is huge so it's well worth the money as it should last a few weeks! Plus the two free sachets of Wet food was fantastic, i'll be purchasing some of that aswell :)

Not tasty...

So far, I had only tried the other variety of TOTW, which my cat happily ate for months without getting tired of it.. I wanted to treat him to some variety and offered the other flavour... Wrong decision. Still giving 4 stars for the quality. :)

Very good value for money

It’s gladly eaten and well digested. Shame that this brand only offers one variety.

Bladder stones?

I've been feeding it for two to three months now. Unfortunately, I only just read that it contains a lot of phosphates. My youngest Maine Coon tomcat now has bladder stones. Could it be related to the food? Never had anything like this before, so I'm stopping this food immediately! Sufficient rating because, after all, it is food, and other cats seem to tolerate it, at least without any consequences!

my favorite

My cat is well on this, he has sensitive stomach issues all his life, a new vet advices to feed grain free. I first tried another grain free dry but was a urine test showed a little too high citric content, so is why I tried Canyon dry to combine. This mix is liked by my cat, he drinks and eats it all, and is so well. I recently tried another dry which is sold in my country but my cat became instantly ill. Canyon has my thumbs up. Thanks you.

Gets eaten gladly!

I immediately served the dry food to my three indoor cats (1 x 13 years, 2 x 9 years), and lo and behold, they all like it, thank goodness! It's always frustrating when you have to buy a larger quantity and then the cats don't like it! I find this Canyon River Feline variety to be optimal for pure indoor cats in terms of protein and fat content, and it's suitable for ALL age groups. I'm glad zooplus has it in their range and hopefully won't remove it again!!! The kibble pieces are round and could perhaps be a bit bigger, but those from Acana and Orijen, for example, are even smaller, and this food wasn't eaten as eagerly anyway. If the acceptance and tolerance remain this good, I will definitely order it again.
