Robust, affordable, offering plenty of space
For my dwarf hamster, the cage is big enough. With additional hiding and play options made of wood, a "hamster habitat" has now been created. Price and service are very customer-friendly... happy to buy here again anytime!

affordable small rodent cage
I've had the Barney cage for two weeks now, and my dwarf hamster is very happy inside. I did have to replace the ladder with a willow bridge, but all in all, it's a great solution for animals that need a suitable habitat. Bravo, I've finally found something that's also easy to clean.

Mimmy and Lilly say thank you. :-)
Since I have a cat, mice were never really an option for me as pets.
However, after I was forced to adopt these two little mice—because they were abandoned on a train station staircase in the blazing sun on Monday—I decided not to take them to an animal shelter but to keep them myself.
They’re now really happy to finally have at least a decent home, even if it’s not entirely species-appropriate, as I simply don’t have the space for something bigger.
Nevertheless, I’ll do everything I can to ensure they have a lovely and long mouse life. :-))
The cage is well-made, and the interior decorations were easy to set up. As others have already mentioned, I immediately got rid of the wheel. It’s better to leave it out and perhaps include a water bottle or something similar instead.

Affordable rodent cage
Today I received the Barney rodent cage and set it up straight away, which wasn’t difficult. However, the wooden ladder is unusable because my dwarf hamster slips and can’t climb up. So I used a willow bridge as a ladder instead, and now it works. You should consider designing the ladder rungs in a way that allows the little hamster paws to climb up properly. Otherwise, everything is fine.

Super!
I’m very happy with my purchase. It’s true that the top opening is particularly difficult to open, but the little resident isn’t supposed to be able to escape, after all. With a bit of finesse, you can open the flap relatively quietly too. So, a great product – I’d buy it again.

Simply perfect
The narrow grid spacing is just perfect for my African soft-furred rats and regular rats! The large flap on the lid and the two front doors make it easy to reach inside.

Very practical
As always, I’m very satisfied, and my hamster "Flo" immediately explored his new home with curiosity. We did remove the plastic wheel straight away and replaced it with a "KARLIE WONDERLAND" solid wood wheel, as I find plastic too dangerous. But other than that, I can only recommend it.

Nice and spacious
There could be more accessories included. The house is not great when it comes to assembling it. You could add:
1 water bottle
1 bowl
and a wooden wheel – just a tip for the price. But otherwise, it's really great.
I recommend removing the house.

Quality
I have the same one myself and am very satisfied with it. Good quality, good features. Perhaps it would be possible to include a water bottle when offering something like this.

Price and concept are great, quality is mediocre, not suitable for every pet.
The price is really very affordable, especially with the included accessories.
- The base area is very good, the tray is high enough to add bedding, and the openings are well-placed.
- The included exercise wheel is pleasantly quiet and doesn’t rattle, even when hung up.
Unfortunately, the cage also has quite a few drawbacks.
- The house and platform absolutely need to be covered, sealed, or otherwise treated. In their "natural state," every drop of moisture soaks in forever, and these nice items last barely a week.
- The tray feels a bit flimsy, and the bottom is slightly curved upwards.
- The top door is always difficult to open – depending on your skill or strength – but above all, it opens with loud rattling and vibrations throughout the entire cage.
- The side doors can’t really be opened properly from the outside; the clip can only be accessed from the inside, and they’re also a bit too small. With some skill, they can be opened from the outside by squeezing the soft wire bars together and pulling them towards you.
- The wire bars are relatively soft and can be completely bent together or apart with some force using two fingers. Depending on the animal and its temperament, this could lead to injury risks when climbing or attempting to escape :-).
For fancy mice or "well-behaved," "lightweight" animals, it’s a good idea, but my gerbils, for example, would probably have chewed through it within a week at the latest. The tray should be much more durable and stable – heaven forbid a slightly larger animal starts scraping at the bare plastic. But for the price, it’s a nice bargain.

Top value for money
The Skyline cages shine with excellent quality and an unbeatable price.
Instead of untreated wood, I would have preferred a plastic or mesh level that’s easier to clean – though I end up covering it with bedding or a sand tray anyway, so it’s fine as it is.
As for some people using this product review section as a propaganda platform, you can only shake your head in disbelief. The exercise wheel gets a star deducted because a plastic wheel is supposedly bad, but the plastic tray is harmless and acceptable? Is that logic really meant to make sense? (Round plastic bad, square plastic good?)
It’s certainly true that animals can die from ingesting too much chewed-up plastic in the worst-case scenario. But the same applies to wood and, as proven, even bedding – and no rational person would seriously consider removing bedding from their cage just because a few, presumably sick, animals have eaten too much of it and subsequently died. Moreover, plastic is oddly considered indispensable for all other animal species, including rats, and hasn’t caused mass deaths among dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, and so on – quite the opposite. Somehow, there aren’t any known fatalities. Everyone should decide for themselves whether to opt for wood or plastic; the pros and cons of both are fairly balanced and don’t make much difference overall.
I would never use a wooden exercise wheel for a small animal either, as wooden wheels are virtually impossible to clean thoroughly and are often used as toilets by most rodents. This means the animals end up running through their own waste for weeks or months, leading to the formation of germs and fungi galore. They might even chew on that very wood, then lick their paws and groom themselves again... gross.
I can only speak for my animals, but they don’t chew on hard plastic, whether it’s the exercise wheel or the running plate. If one of them had a serious “plastic-chewing habit,” I might have to switch. The exercise wheels attached to the cage bars often have the general issue of causing the entire cage to vibrate and rattle.
In any case, full marks for the cage – especially the mesh area, which is beautifully and sturdily crafted. The non-toxic cage coating is fantastic, and maybe next time there’ll be a freestanding exercise wheel.

Wow!
When we unpacked the cage, we were thrilled about the huge amount of space our little Robovski lady would have in it. She settled into her new home very quickly.
However, we replaced the plastic wheel with a ball-bearing wooden wheel.
The cage offers plenty of room for creative expansions, and the large flap on top makes it much easier to add new little toys for the pet. The two side doors are fantastic for calmly interacting with the pet without the hamster immediately fearing the "scary bird of prey" from above.
All in all, we are very satisfied with our purchase!

Perfect for beginners
We ordered the cage for a Dzungarian dwarf hamster and received it within two days. It matches the description exactly. Assembly is very easy. Installing the wooden platform was a bit fiddly. The three doors close very tightly, and the entire cage rattles and shakes when you try to open or close them. Fortunately, our fearless hamster doesn’t seem to mind. With a bit of skill and carefully applied force, you can bend the metal so that it closes securely and makes less noise. The cage meets the legally required minimum dimensions for animal welfare and has a sufficiently deep base for burrowing animals. The wooden accessories are well-made. However, we don’t understand why a plastic exercise wheel is included in a rodent cage (hence one point deducted). The little animals can chew on the plastic accessories and get sick from it. The cage is so tall and spacious that you can easily add another level with more hideouts to combat boredom (for both the pet and the owner). The base is easy to clean, and the narrow bar spacing makes the cage escape-proof. So: remove the exercise wheel, and you’ll have happy pets. A good choice.

Super cage for golden hamsters
We bought the cage for our golden hamster, and it has worked out brilliantly. The high base allows for deep bedding – our hamster loves it.
The plastic exercise wheel was removed straight away and replaced with a large wooden one. If you attach the additional level at the very bottom, the wheel fits perfectly with its stand on top, and underneath it creates a cosy little cave.
Opposite this level, we’ve added a climbing platform.
We’ve also placed a large cork tube across the entire length of the cage.
Thanks to the large lid opening and the two front doors, you can access every part of the cage easily. Everything is within reach, so you can refill food or clean the corner toilet without disturbing the little one.
I’d buy this cage again anytime!
Great value for money!

Super cage!
I bought the cage for my four fancy mice. The plastic wheel was removed straight away, of course, but the rest is really great. The base is high enough to prevent bedding from falling out while digging, the wooden house is used by my mice as a food bunker, and they’ve built themselves a nest under the low-hanging platform. (This way, a wooden exercise wheel with a stand fits perfectly on top as well.) It’s spacious enough, offers plenty of room for additional toys, and the top door, while tricky to open (especially at first), is large enough to easily change the food. I can only recommend this cage!

Good for Roborowskis
My Roborowskis feel very comfortable in the cage. The bar spacing is nice and small, though the top door is a bit stiff.
The plastic exercise wheel doesn’t really match the look of the cage; a wooden wheel would have been more suitable.
For the price of €39.99, it’s a decent cage with a hamster-friendly basic setup.
It would be great if it were available at this price more often, because when you do the maths...
And especially for people with limited budgets, their hamster shouldn’t have to suffer in a small, cheap cage just because it’s not financially "feasible."
Please list it as an offer again! Then this cage is a real alternative.

Barney Hamster Cage
I bought the cage for my Roborovski dwarf hamster. A big plus is that the wiring is nice and tight. So far, I haven’t found any spot where my little one could squeeze through. The platform and the little house are very well made. What stands out about the house is that it’s simply slotted together, so there are no dangerous clips or nails sticking out. The platform could be a bit bigger, or there could be a second one included. All in all, though, I’m very satisfied and think the price-performance ratio is fair. For a dwarf hamster, this cage is absolutely recommendable.

Good value for money, nice and spacious
This cage is highly recommended as it’s big enough for my dwarf hamster, and he felt comfortable in it straight away. The narrow spacing of the bars is also great, so my hamster can’t nibble on them as easily ;) The base tray is nice and deep for digging.
However, the spacing between the steps on the ladder is a bit wide, so Charlie occasionally slips a little, but it doesn’t bother him at all. The large opening at the top is a bit tricky to close. As for the wheel, I won’t say much about it – it’s already been mentioned. You can always get a different one :)
All in all, the price-performance ratio was good, and I’m happy with it!

Recommendable cage
The cage is very well made, as is the included accessories. I think if I had to build another level, ladder, and wooden house myself, it would add extra costs, not to mention the time involved...
What I also like is that the cage is green – that's my favourite colour.
The cage is worth the money, without any reservations.
I only got rid of the exercise wheel...
