The magnet is very strong, which I suppose is good as the wind won't blow the flap open. It is however so strong that my cats are unable to open the flap. They simply refuse to push through. We therefore had to take the magnetic strip out. The downside is that there is now a constant draft. They now happily use the flap. I would not recommend this cat flap, it just doesn't do the job.

We have been using the cat flap inside the house for almost 14 years now, so the cats can get to the basement. Installation was straightforward. There are four settings (in and out, in only, out only, and completely closed), and we usually have it set to allow movement in both directions. Our cats quickly got used to the flap and use it without any hesitation. It’s very easy to clean with soapy water. A wholehearted recommendation to buy!!!

Petsafe needs to tweak this product. The magnetic closure not only keeps air out, it keeps cats in! My three are used to coming and going through a cat flap. They're afraid of this one. It requires too much force to open then snaps back. There have been accidents for the first time ever because they refused to use it. My workaround has been to remove the magnetic strip around the plastic flap but that's not going to be ideal in winter.
