Hill's Prescription Diet Feline k/d Kidney Care

My recently diagnosed 18 year old cat with kidney disease only licks the gravy and leaves the rest. Chunks don’t look like chicken or smell appetising to me (or my cat) it would be helpful in order to see what a cat will or will not eat when first diagnosed is for small trial packs of mixed flavours to be offered. I end up wasting so much food which is expensive.

My experience with Hill's kidney and bladder wet foods is, you got to mesh the pieces with fork, thus the chunks and gravy mixe better and it will be all eaten by your cat. The bladder s/d saved our stud's life, cleared the uroliths even I only gave one pouch from that a day made a difference.

I have tried 4 different brands and this is the only kidney care food my cat will eat. I have to mash it a little otherwise she will just lick off the gravy but once mashed eats it all.

My cat wouldn't entertain this at all, + i offered it to my other cats, no e of them would touch it either, + 2 of them will usually eat anything. Sorry but I won't be buying this again

Having recently been diagnosed with kidney disease, my cat has spent the last month testing different options. Hill's seem to provide the most expensive prescription wet food diet for cats with kidney disease but it's simply not appreciated by my cat. He'll lick all the gravy and leave all the chunks. According to other reviews, this does not seem to be uncommon. Interestingly, my cat favours the wet food from the cheapest provider of food for cats with kidney disease (Purina).

I'm sure wet the food is great, but my boy just seems to lick the jelly off it and leave the meat. I wish they did a variety pack to try the other flavours. He seems to love the dry food in the range though.

Both my ageing cats have over-active thyroid and kidney issues. Recent blood tests show that kidney problem is well under control, thanks to this food - which they like!

My 17.5 year old female has been diagnosed with early stage renal failure so it was suggested by the vet that I move her over to a renal diet. I tried lots of different brands and this is the best in her opinion. The salmon flavour goes down a treat! I do mush the chunks up a bit in the sachet before opening as they are rather big and her eating a whole sachet didn't happen overnight, it was a process that took a week or so, as she had to get used to the new diet. Well worth it though.

I was advised to buy this product from my vets, encouraged it would be better for my cat's diet...The sad fact of the matter is my cat despises this product and to add insult to injury the smell of this cat food is so strong and overpowering in the most unpleasant way. It's very upsetting paying so much for cat food for your cat to avoid it. I wish my nostrils could have avoided it too honestly.

I tried all the wet food on the market and this is the only brand my lovely cat will eat!

I’ve had to use this diet now my beloved cat has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

Unfortunately my cat will not eat this, she licks the gravy and won’t touch the meat, I will have to give what’s left away!

After a worrying blood test result and on the Vet’s advice, I tried Kidney Care mixed in with Tink’s usual tuna hoping I could transition her over to KC eventually. Tink licked the gravy off and left everything else. Left with a bowl full of lumps (all of her regular Tuna had been eaten). Not a hit, I’m afraid but then again, she has always been a fussy girl! Wish there was a Tuna version. Might have more chance of success with that. The Kidney Care biscuits seem to be going down better though

Since my cat started to have this food, she has diarrhea.

Sugar is high on the ingredients list. For obvious reasons we do not eat every meal with a high proportion of sugar, so why should our cats. We have had one cat with diabetes and want to avoid this horrible disease.

My cat stopped eating the meat of other brands and only licked the juice! He had lost lots of weight and I was so worried we were going to lose him! We gave Hills a go in a last hope of him liking it and he did!! I’ve not seen him eat his food so fast and asks for more! It’s made us so happy to have found a brand he likes and will eat all of it and not just lick the juice off like he did with all other brands! Well done Hills you have made my cat happy again xx

My cat would'nt eat it..

Salmon flavour is rocking their world, can’t get enough. They tried chicken a few years ago and didn’t really care for it.

In all the years I have had cats with CKD, I have yet to find one that would eat this food. Hills could at least try and make it palatable. How can you try and help a cat with this awful disease if they are unlikely to eat it

Sniffed it and walked away ......................

I noticed that my 18-year-old cat was drinking a lot and peeing a lot. That’s why we thought she might have diabetes. The vet even double-checked: no diabetes, but her kidneys are struggling 😥. She’s always been a picky eater her whole life. The vet gave us a pouch to try (and of course medication) and she ate it straight away 😃🥳 and now she even asks for more 🥰. I’m so happy to see her getting better every day. The smell is really strong though, I must say.

His constant refusal to eat his renal food is driving me to despair. He's eating this one really well at the moment. Let's see how long it lasts.

My tomcat can't tolerate "normal" food anymore after poisoning led to kidney insufficiency. Of all the kidney wet foods we've tried, he only accepts Hills k/d and k/d + mobility. He actually licks/eats them straight from the pouch, which I squeeze out for him in portions, and then he eats the bits that fall onto the plate. That's our current feeding ritual – and it's helped him gain weight again, going from 1 to 3 pouches a day. The product does contain sugar though...

I used to give my cat Royal Canin pouches for his kidney problems. He wasn’t really a fan and often didn’t finish them. I switched to this brand and now my cat seems to love it—he finishes his portion in 5 minutes and there’s no more waste.

My cats dislike all the wet food for kidneys out there, but they actually ate this one. It might just be a one-off, but you’re always happy for any kind they’ll eat.

Unfortunately, my cat really doesn't like this at all and leaves it untouched.

The cat ate 1.5 sachets and then stopped eating. Now he just licks the sauce and that's it.

Such a shame about this expensive food.

Once again, I've realised that depending on the source, the same pet food can be completely different. Unfortunately, the version available on zooplus is very disappointing this time, especially compared to the contents of identical pouches from other suppliers in Poland. Grey, hard and unappetising pieces...

My cat is picky with food, but she likes this!

My cat doesn’t like it, the pieces are big and dry. And it’s quite expensive, nothing like the RC ones.

My cat really likes eating this, and since she doesn’t have all her teeth anymore, it’s perfect.

Great quality. With this product, I managed to get my kitty’s blood values back to normal.
