About Kerstin Semmler | Author at the zooplus Pet Magazine

Even before I could read, I loved leafing through books about cats and dogs. Later, alongside my German studies, I spent several years working in a shop selling pet food and accessories. In the same company, I discovered more aspects of the pet world when I worked behind the scenes in press relations and internal communications.

zooplus gave me my first step into freelance writing: Back then, in the zooplus forum, keen cat lovers came together in 2011 to launch a magazine called “Pfotenhieb”. In the years that followed, I wrote hundreds of advice articles on pet and health topics for both digital and print magazines. As a teacher in Germany, I also campaigned for animal welfare education (for example, through the “Tierliebe fürs Leben” project by Purina).

Today I live in Switzerland with my family, which also includes our Lagotto Romagnolo Tuffo, a truffle-hunting dog. He helps me with research into animal-related topics: together we enjoy exploring different training methods and dog sports from agility to dummy work and mantrailing.

You can meet Tuffo on his Instagram account: @tuffo_tartufo
