About Bärbel Edel | Author zooplus Pet Magazine

Cats have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I fondly recall the moggies from my childhood – the good-natured Felix and the spirited Flori, who were such delightful playmates.

Today I ama journalist, living and working in Augsburg. My tomcat Elvis inspired me to create the cat blog “Lieblingskatze” and also to write as an author about cats and other animals – for example, here for the zooplus Magazine. Through my articles, I hope to help people understand their pets better.

On my blog “Lieblingskatze” everything revolves around our feline friends. You’ll findnews, tips and also stories about my cats. My dear companion Elvis sadly passed away at the age of 19. Lucy has since joined me – a lively little female who gets up to all sorts of mischief and never fails to make me laugh.

Both Elvis and Lucy came from an animal shelter. They are living proof that you can find truly wonderful, affectionate pets there. In 2024, my book “Your Shelter Cat: Everything You Need to Know About Adopting a Feline Friend” was published. It explains cat adoption step by step.

I have a soft spot not only for cats but also for other animals. During my folklore studies at LMU Munich, for example, I carried out research into the relationship between humans and dogs. My master’s thesis was entitled “The Dog as a Pet – Object or Person?” and was also published as a book.

I am especially fond of birds, bats and bears. In truth, I love all animals – though I must admit I’m not entirely comfortable with spiders.

Cat Collar with Bell: Harmful to Cats?

To protect garden birds, some owners fit their cats with a collar adorned with a bell. The hope is that the jingling will warn the birds and keep them safe from the cat. Unfortunately, this is not a good idea.
