Product description

A complete, wet dietetic food for adult cats aged 6 months and older with diabetes. Rich in protein and with a reduced calorie and starch content. This tasty food in pouches helps regulate the blood sugar.

Royal Canin Veterinary - Diabetic offers a lasting solution for diabetic cats aged six months and older. Diabetes mellitus is a common disease in cats and the cause is usually a genetic predisposition or obesity. If your cat is suffering from diabetes, there is a chronic increase in the blood sugar level, due to the instability of the insulin production. This makes it impossible for the body to regulate the blood sugar level. If your cat has diabetes, a change of diet is essential and Royal Canin Veterinary - Diabetic Wet food offers a tasty meal with added health benefits. The amount of calories in this food is kept at a moderate level and the starch content is reduced, which supports both weight loss and helps maintain a healthy weight. The addition of L-carnitine also helps reduce fat deposits. The high protein content helps maintain the muscle mass of your cat and supports the delayed glucose supply.

General information:

  • Please seek your vet's advice before using this food or extending the feeding period.
  • When feeding your cat with a veterinary diet you should consult your vet regularly for check-ups.
  • If your cat's health deteriorates please seek veterinary advice immediately.

Indications:

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Body Condition Score (BCS) ≤ 6/9
  • Note: Insulin sensitivity may improve while your cat is on this diet. Blood sugar levels should be closely monitored and the insulin dose adjusted as necessary.
Contraindications:
  • Pregnancy or lactation, kittens
  • Overweight or obese cats (BCS ≥ 7/9)
Key benefits:
  • Moderate calorie content: can help to combat weight gain.
  • High protein content: helps to maintain muscle mass
  • Gluco modulation: specialised formula to help manage the postprandial blood glucose in diabetic cats.
  • Low starch: helps to reduce the absorption of excessive amounts of carbohydrates.
Length of treatment:
  • It is advisable to keep your cat on this diet for the rest of its life. Although diabetes can be reversible in cats, lifelong treatment reduces the risk of relapse.

Therapeutic veterinary diets are carefully formulated and recommended to be used in conjunction with veterinary advice and support.
Royal Canin strongly recommend you seek advice from your vet prior to and during feeding of any of these products to your pet.

diabetic cat food
I was advised by my vet to feed my cat this product. I ordered it from the website and was pleased with both the price and the speed of the delivery. I will definitely re-order again soon.

Good
My cat been on this for just over a month, she likes it just wish they did more varieties. Although it's not brought her levels down as of yet I'm assuming we still need to get her insulin figured out yet.

we tried lots of brands when our diabetic cat went off his food. our vet recommended royal canin saying most cats love this, she was right. all our cats loved it. Very generous portion size in each pouch, more costly than other brands but it is quality food if your budget allows. if not, there are other good brands out there, we had to try lots to get our cat eating again, now he is healthy, still diabetic, but stable.

FORMULA CHANGED SMALLER SIZE
Older reviews are for product that was of better quality than new version They added more fat and God knows what else they changed, my cat doesn't want to eat it, makes him sick Size of packaging was Reduced significantly, but they didn't lower the price It was already an expensive product and now it has been spoiled by adding more cheap fat and reducing the size Looks like Royal Canin is desperate for more profit. Shame, as this food has been ruined, and my cats health deteriorated as B.Thanks

Royal Diabetic - nice food, good blood sugar levels
My cat's blood sugar is much better since she's been eating this food. There are even days when I don't have to inject her. I really recommend this!

fabulous food
My really picky 13 year old cat was diagnosed with Pancreatitis last year. He had a really tough time getting well and lost more than a kilo. This food is a god send and has been keeping his flare ups to a minimum - amazing food would highly recommend.

Agrees with my cat
My cat likes eating this food and it agrees with her (no more diarrhoea since we changed her to this), so I'd recommend it.

For post operative recovery
Following a major operation, my veterinary surgeon gave me a pack of 4 pouches of Royal Canin Veterinary Diet - Gastro Intestinal to feed my cat whilst she recovers. She is elderly and weighs just 3.2 kgs. The recommended feeding amount for this weight is 2.25 pouches per day and it is recommended that she continues with this diet for 2 - 3 weeks. My little one loves it and it's so heartening to see her enjoying her food. THANK YOU Zooplus for making it available.

Great food
If only It was rabbit or beef flavour my cat might like it better. He's so much better in this than on his iams and meat. Since the vet put him on it he's doing so much better. His coat is all fluffy and smooth again (not a shiny or silky furred cat) he no longer gets uti after uti and he is a much happier cat. Even though it takes him 4sittings to eat the stuff!

About time
that Royal Canin had its diabetic food in pouches. My cat really likes it and throws herself at it when I put it down. The food has a really great consistency and clearly a tasty sauce too. It smells nice to me too.
