My cats didn't seem to have any difficulty adapting to the idea of hopping into the tray from the top. The problems arose when it came to getting out. The lid doesn't fit tightly enough, so it rattles when the cat puts pressure on it. My cats found that very disturbing and would try to get out of the tray without touching it. I had to use pieces of paper as wedges to stop the rattling but one of my cats decided she just didn't trust it and started urinating around the house.
