Eheim 2213 - all you'll need in a small externalI have used many filters over years, including the bigger Pro II filters, this little filter is just brilliantly simple and all you'll need from a small external. It is quieter than the bigger ones and while it doesn't have a load of features, this means there are just fewer things to go wrong. Spend a little time getting the hand of the priming and you will have a quiet filter that rarely needs maintenance or cleaning (twice a year) and will continue to serve you for years to come.

Extra CostsIn addition to this filter you will also have to purchase additional filter media, either the blue foam pads or bio filtration pack. Also when cleaning the filters you will have to take out the feed and return tubes from your tank to stop the tank from siphoning out. Alteratively you can buy IN-LINE TAPS to turn off this action. Then again you can buy the PLUS version or another make from other stockist cheaper than the combined cost from Zooplus

Very Good But !I read reviews on this filter and decided to get one, however I relied on the price comparison sites to find me the cheapest. This filter is truly excellent however if you shop around you can get the 2213 PLUS version which comes with x2 double taps (£17) and filter media included for not much more than the £39.90 from this site. Still the delivery was quick and I'm impressed with the filter so far

very good filter but not easyest to cleani have used a 2213 on and off for about 12 years. I have tried other filters but always end coming back to the eheim range, imo they make fluval look very poor the only other filter i have used that compares are the new tetra tec filters. I have just upgraded my tank to a 90 gallen tank and always over filter so am going to order a 2217 to runn allong side the tetra tec ex1200 i know this is over kill but if one filter packs in at least my other can carry the load. would alway recomend for build quality and they last for ever if maintained

Not very easy to cleanThe smaller model doesn't have any taps so you have to take the entire tubing out when cleaning it. Secondly, they have the input and output valves at the top and bottom of the filter. Not the easiest to clean.

Eheim - The BestVery easy to use and set up. I used a measuring jug to fill up the pipework and cannister, so when I started the pump there was minimal air blocks - quite easy to do. Low noise level - basic pump for my knifefish tank. Would recommend anytime.
