let any cat in

3rd review for this cat flap and having found another cat in my house(not mine) i am fed up with it and will be replacing it as soon as possible. i still have the 1st cat flap and on seeing that the replacement is working no better i took it apart to look at the mechanism. i found that you can unlock this cat flap with any bit of steel. this means that ANY cat with bell or metal buckle on its collar can open the flap.

Magnetic attraction

Swing 7 is brilliantly simple and very well made, but ours occasionally locks the cat out. Her long Siamese head prevents the magnet collar reaching far enough into the frame. Our previous, electronic, flap (Staywell) worked fine for ten years and the collar was much lighter, plus you could pick a code to stop other collared cats. But it did need batteries....

new and improved

Further to my last review, the machanism in the cat flap failed. Zoo plus have now replaced it with a new one and the mechanism is much more secure, it is a new improved model. It has been installed for a couple of months now and seams more secure than the last one. This new model also has a draught excluder. The collar magnet is the same, so again fairly large.

Any old iron

Make sure that you have the right thickness of door as you can not cut the tunnel down to size. The magnet that comes with the flap is quite large, and if you have a small cat it is a bit cumbersome. The magnet is also very strong, so expect rusty nails and pieces of metal to be bought back in with the cat. The flap has been installed for about a year and the mechanism is starting to fail as if you push it had enough the door will open and let any old cat in.
